Disparities: pt 1.
These pics were taken in my hometown, Augusta, Ga.
a documentation of two cemeteries, Magnolia cemetery on the left, Cedar Grove on the right. One was made for enslaved Africans, the other for white slave “owners”. You can probably imagine which is which....placed right next to eachother so you can really see the difference in care and respect given to both. Even in death, they wanted to make it clear they viewed us as less than...
Even with the blatant disrespect Cedar Grove Cemetery is home to so much rich history for us. Some of Augusta’s most prominent African American leaders were buried here. I even have several family members buried here. It definitely holds space in the Hearts of those of us who have deep roots here, but it is also a very obvious reminder of the disparities that have existed (and do exist) between Us, and them.
