When I was in high school, I remember taking a photography class and absolutely loving it. We started out by making a camera out of a shoe box and developing our photos in a dark room. I would find excuses to have to go to that classroom during other parts of the day by convincing my other teachers that developing my film was a time-sensitive matter. One day it clicked in my head and I told my parents I wanted to be a photographer.

Because this was in the early 2000s, before social media or Pinterest, we assumed there was no money to be made in photography and I needed to choose another path. At the time, I worked in a cosmetics store and ended up settling on a career in makeup artistry for more than 22 years. I enjoyed it but over time I wanted to evolve and during the pandemic when I could not touch a single brush to a face, I gave myself permission to explore my options and I decided to start taking classes again in Photography.

My love for this art medium has bloomed again and I find myself constantly thinking about photography. Always trying to learn new things, reaching out to my amazing mentors when I need encouragement and advice, practicing whenever I have the opportunity, and now I find myself booking so many incredible people that I walk away calling a friend. I'm so grateful for letting myself search for what would make me happy.
