Here is a quick example as to why it is helpful to have an expert eye give you a hand when being photographed.
I love the images I have here with my daughter! I love them because she's cute, we're both happy, and these moments matter.
ALWAYS exist in pictures with your children.
However, I look a bit heavy because I forgot to relax my shoulders and arms while holding my daughter. My face looks fuller because it was a trick to keep her upright and I wasn't able to bring my chin forward and down.
Now, look at the image of just me.
See how I look more angled, more defined, a little more polished (and yes, dramatic/moody).
There are maybe 10 minutes between the pictures of me with my daughter vs me without her.
Anyone who's held a baby will tell you it's difficult to get usable pictures. And it's darn near impossible to get great pictures where you also love how you look, all eyes are open, the lighting is right, clothes are straight, hair is in place, no nose buggies, no tension, etc.
Candids are wonderful! And we all have oodles of them saved to our phones- rightly so.
But when you want something more purposeful, something where you can love how YOU look as well as your children, that's when you need a photographer who can get in there with you and gently guide and maneuver.
If you've ever looked at pictures of yourself and hated them, it's not you. I promise, it's not you.
It's the camera, it's the lighting, it's the angle, it's a whole host of things.
A good photographer proves you're beautiful by mastering the external noise and using it to help you shine.
You've just got to show up.
