The goal is that you see yourself as those that love you see you.

You do not have any idea how magnificent you are.

How could you?

When was the last time you examined yourself while joy and elation spill out of your soul?

You’ve just seen yourself with a critical eye that’s always on the lookout for the flaws. And you inevitably find them.

But I’m looking for the beauty.
I’m looking at this divine, magical universe of stardust and light in human form and I can’t even contain my joy.

I see it.
Your beauty is clear as day.
And I’m desperate for you to see it too.

Because your baby is only a high school senior once in their life.

Because you saw them overcome difficulties that would have leveled you at that age.

Because they sacrificed, worked, and showed up even when it was painful.

Because they were there early mornings and late nights.

But really, because you love them.
Because they are the greatest miracle you've ever witnessed and their very existence has saved you.
So they need to exist in pictures so they can see what you see ❤

My fear is that as women grow older they won’t know what aging actually looks like.

They’ll run from the wrinkles and shrink back at the greying hair thinking they’ve done something wrong . . . that they are ugly, and that because of this change they lost their beauty.

“I’m the only one who looks this way.”
“I’m invisible.”

I fear the world has vilified aging so much that it’s now punishing women for simply growing up and growing older.

If you’re grey, wrinkled, stretched, stooped, crooked, or slow I love you.
I love you for still living this life as it was meant to be lived.

You were never meant to be hidden away, hiding ‘the shame’ of aging.

You were meant to be revered and honored and adored.

The world may not see your beauty as it tends to be blind and stupid.

But the rest of us do.
And it’s magnificent.
YOU, with all your wise years, are magnificent.

Some things I know to be true:
• Insulting ourselves into looking better isn't going to work.

• Our truest beauty doesn’t exist in what we lack.

• We are the most unique, most valuable creations in the entire universe.

• All the surgery and Ozempic in the world can't make you love yourself.

• The beauty of womanhood is an ever changing experience- to wish away the changing is to erase its magnificence.

Beauty isn't in the smooth or the perfect (whatever that is).
It's in the joy.
It's in the soul that radiates light.
It's the unrelenting spirit that moves forward in the face of chaos.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that when age shows its signs beauty leaves.

That would make beauty terribly superficial.

Real beauty has depth. YOU have depth. You just need to see it.

D'ya know I write articles sometimes?

This one I wrote because I was annoyed at all the ads making me feel bad for having wrinkles at 34 and stretch marks after 5 kids.

More importantly it has pictures of beautiful women who live with grace and elegance. They're proof that growing up means growing in beauty.

The article is in my comments ❤

Oy! I’m gonna be obsessed with you.
You need to know that sooner rather than later. I’m gonna be so into you and the small movements of your hands and the way your eyebrow raises when you try on that black dress.

I’m gonna be obsessed and excited you’re here!
We’re gonna laugh and I’m gonna be loud.

I’m gonna say, “ok! Last shot!” and then take 20 more because you look that stunning.

I’m gonna have questions about why you are the way you are.
I’m gonna ask if you’re happy . . . then I’m gonna ask why.
And I want to know.
I want to know the triumphs, the sacrifices, and the dreams. I want to hear all the stories and be with you.
I’m gonna think you’re great.

And crazy beautiful.

And if you show even a little bit of skin I’m gonna let you know you are smokin’ hot . . . and you might not believe me. But that’s ok because I’m right and I’ll have enough enthusiasm for the both of us.

I’m gonna be here and I’m going to be with you and I’m going to treat you like you matter and you’re important because that’s all I know how to do.

So come visit me and let me obsess over you a little(a lot) bit.

Muse: Kelly M. who everyone obsesses over, and rightly so 🙌🏻

Being an artist for other artists is a special kind of creation.
Being a creative can feel a little crazy.
We’re a little here, a little there, a little all over the place in a way that makes sense but somewhere along the line we lost our keys but it’s ok because we found the salt in the fridge on our way to go paint the basement . . .

It’s an adventure, but a truly beautiful one.

Photographing Logan was an experience of creative expression and play that felt delicate one moment and gripping the next.

She’s a real beauty, this one.
A creative spirit whose generous heart could rival her expansive imagination.

Logan Henry is such a vibe 🫶

I just want to be better and I’m trying my best.

That’s all we’ve got.

There is not bypassing the work of trying.

The best way to overcome the self loathing of not being where we think we should be is just to acknowledge that we’re showing up in the game of life.

If you’re trying your best, that’s more than enough ❤️

Throwback to some years ago when getting in front of the camera made me shake in my boots.

Without a doubt, everyone’s favorite book mistress, Shea of The Raven's Heart.

I’ve sat back over the last few weeks and observed how people interact with Shea when they’re in her bookstore-
Peaceful
Excited
Grateful
Even relief

And it’s not the books that give people that feeling. It’s Shea.
It’s her peaceful ever present reassurance.
It seeps into the air and wraps you in a gentle cocoon of quiet calm that settles the noise of the world and invites you to visit countless others that line the pages of her books.

The Ravens Heart feels special because Shea is special and she makes you feel the same way.

You are NOT normal.

That fire in your heart,
That joy that makes others uncomfortable,
Those dreams that feel *almost* too big,
That feeling like you’re more than what the world would have you think.

You’re not normal and that’s what makes you so beautiful.

And, I promise, this isn’t a motivational guru line I throw around because making you feel good gets me views (it’s actually the opposite-bad news sells).
I believe this.
Viewing others as divine beings with celestial growth is woven into every belief system I have.

‘Normal’ doesn’t fit the powerfully created sacred individual that you are.
Take it as a high compliment.

Here is a quick example as to why it is helpful to have an expert eye give you a hand when being photographed.

I love the images I have here with my daughter! I love them because she's cute, we're both happy, and these moments matter.

ALWAYS exist in pictures with your children.

However, I look a bit heavy because I forgot to relax my shoulders and arms while holding my daughter. My face looks fuller because it was a trick to keep her upright and I wasn't able to bring my chin forward and down.

Now, look at the image of just me.

See how I look more angled, more defined, a little more polished (and yes, dramatic/moody).

There are maybe 10 minutes between the pictures of me with my daughter vs me without her.

Anyone who's held a baby will tell you it's difficult to get usable pictures. And it's darn near impossible to get great pictures where you also love how you look, all eyes are open, the lighting is right, clothes are straight, hair is in place, no nose buggies, no tension, etc.

Candids are wonderful! And we all have oodles of them saved to our phones- rightly so.

But when you want something more purposeful, something where you can love how YOU look as well as your children, that's when you need a photographer who can get in there with you and gently guide and maneuver.

If you've ever looked at pictures of yourself and hated them, it's not you. I promise, it's not you.
It's the camera, it's the lighting, it's the angle, it's a whole host of things.

A good photographer proves you're beautiful by mastering the external noise and using it to help you shine.

You've just got to show up.

Another version of my unpublished/not-so-serious/fictional-but-true magazine.

I pretend to be an editor, publisher, and designer while slapping words on a page.

To date, my biggest creative flex is that my work features real people.

Looking back through these images makes me think Amanda, Lindsay, & Marinna and I should put together another Creative Day. My work is only as good as it is because of the people who work along side me and the people who sit in front of me.
Thank you three for seeing me as an artist when I questioned it myself ❤️❤️
