Today I had the honor of photographing a very special little girl as she celebrated her first birthday. 🎂💜
For most families, a first birthday is a celebration of 365 days of memories, milestones, and growth. For Saylor Kate, it is also a celebration of strength, resilience, and overcoming obstacles that most people will never have to face.
From the very beginning, Saylor’s journey has been anything but easy. Shortly after birth, she was admitted to the NICU where doctors discovered feeding difficulties that led to weight loss and the need for a feeding tube. She was later diagnosed with Mosaic Trisomy 9, a rare genetic disorder that brought many unknowns and a future filled with specialists, therapies, and medical appointments.
Over the past year, Saylor has faced challenges with courage beyond her years. Through every appointment, every milestone, and every hurdle, she has continued to show just how strong she is. Alongside her every step of the way have been her devoted parents, loving her fiercely and celebrating every victory, big and small.
Today’s birthday session was about so much more than cake and pictures. It was a celebration of one incredible year. A year of fighting. A year of growing. A year of proving that she is stronger than anyone could have imagined.
One of the sweetest details of the session was the sprinkles placed in her feeding tube bag—a reminder that every part of her journey deserves to be celebrated. It’s a part of her story, and today we celebrated all of it.
Happy 1st Birthday, Saylor Kate. You are loved by so many, and your story continues to inspire everyone who knows you. Here’s to all the milestones ahead and the amazing little girl you are becoming. 💜
