At the moment I intended to leave, this Pied Kingfisher beckoned me to wait just a hair longer. Perching high above the creek, he watched and waited. In what seemed like an instant, he was off the perch and diving fully into the water. He emerged, minnow between the beak, and returned to a nearby branch to have breakfast.

The natural world is truly the best teacher. Going out with no real goal and capturing something like this is truly amazing. 61 different species of birds were identified with the help of the Merlin app. It’s a testament to the fact that sometimes showing up is all that’s necessary. And a 200-600mm lens. That’s also necessary.
