A Landmark of Faith in Kipling
Driving along US Highway 401 near Fuquay-Varina, it’s hard to miss this striking silhouette reaching toward the clouds.
Standing 60 feet tall, the "Kipling Cross" has become a beloved landmark in this unincorporated corner of North Carolina. It’s a true testament to community and personal dedication, having been erected by local resident David Vuncannon with the help of volunteers right on his family’s farmland.
In this shot, I wanted to capture the cross at that perfect moment when the sun begins to dip, casting a warm radiance across the field and highlighting the crisp, white lines of the structure against the deepening blue. Whether you pass it daily on your commute or you’re seeing it for the first time, there is an undeniable sense of peace that settles over this spot as the day ends.
It’s these local treasures—built with heart and tucked away in our rural communities—that remind me why I love documenting the spirit of North Carolina.
