This weekend I’m participating in the .studio.stroll (which I’m organizing with the help of and ). I’ve been digging through my archives for photos to print and found this gem. If you’re looking for something fun to do on Sunday, stop by and see us! It’s from 1-5 - more details on our website bit.ly/Falconhurst.

My son Oscar was 5 when he asked me, "can a boy be a baker?" I responded that yes, a boy can definitely be a baker. And then I dropped what I was doing at that moment and we baked brownies together.
.
He's 10 now, and we still love to bake together. For Christmas, I got Oscar a cupcake kit and he got me a cookbook about cakes. Baking is (literally) a sweet thing that we share.
A few weeks ago, after a particularly hard day at school, I handed Oscar the copy of "Snacking Cakes" by that he got me for Christmas. "Pick a cake from this book and if I have all the ingredients, we'll make it today." His mood - and mine - improved instantly. There's not much that a little butter, sugar, and flour can't improve.
That day we decided to try to bake all of the cakes in Snacking Cakes this year. There are about 50 (plus variations) and we've made 4 so far. I know there will be times this year when work and schedules make this project a challenge, but I'm hoping we can tackle it and have some fun along the way. I won't post photos of every cake (I've already missed a few!) but I'll try to share a few now and then. Here's to baking together this year and making life a little sweeter.

We all know a beautiful online store is pretty much a requirement for most businesses at this point. With more and more purchases shifting to online, many of my clients are looking for high-quality image libraries that can be used for online ordering as well as social media. Here's where I can help!

Earlier this year I worked with to create a library of photos for their online store. We were able to photograph their wide variety of pasture-raised, grassfed meats with styled, cohesive images for use across all of their platforms. It was such a great experience working with the folks at the farm, as well as on this project. Check out the video in my reels and stories to see how it turned out (and, while you're at it, visit the HNG online store and order from amazing local products).

I am buried in editing right now. Like completely, totally, buried. But I did take a few minutes to reorganize a little corner of my pantry the other day and that makes me so happy. Glad to have my cookbooks organized and within easy reach (this is just steps away from my stove). Also, that's not all of my cookbooks - just the ones I use all the time.

Here's a little proof that I've loved photography for a long, long time. It's been part of my life for so long, I don't really remember my life before photography.

As a kid I found my mother's discarded Kodak Instamatic in our kitchen cabinet, behind an old cigar box full of postage stamps and pens. Square, slightly yellowed photographs of my brother and I as children had been created by this camera. It required 126 film, which came wrapped in little yellow foil packages that I loved tearing open. I spent my childhood exploring our 40 acres in Southeastern Ohio, snapping photos of rocks and trees, flowers in the garden, and all of our pets.

When I clicked the shutter and wound the film forward, the little plastic teeth inside the camera grinding along, I knew something magical was happening. This is the feeling I have every time I use my camera, even after all these years.

Today is the last day of summer for me. We came back from the beach yesterday and the kids start school tomorrow. We go back into the flow of a fall schedule, even though the days are still warm and I haven't canned tomatoes yet.
This is a time of year that's a little hard for me, because there's just SO much to feel right now. Both my kids have birthdays in August, so I'm always reminiscing and feeling a little bittersweet about milestones and kids growing up. It's the start of school, so I always have these "I can't believe..." kinds of feelings. This year is a big one - my oldest starts high school - which feels impossible and monumental. And I'm sad that our annual beach vacation is behind us - I mean, who doesn't feel sad about vacation ending, right?
I am feeling all the feelings. My car is full of sand. My laundry baskets are overflowing, the dishwasher is running, I need to go to the grocery store. It feels like the best thing I can do right now is make something that involves butter and flour. This day, these feelings, this season calls for pastry crust. Tomato galette it is. Because when everything feels like too much, making something delicious for my people feels like one tiny thing that's right and under control and good. 💕🍅
