Something I’ve wanted to do for a really long time is to have a journal on my website with helpful resources for couples planning their celebrations. And I’ve always wanted a little corner of that to be a place for “field notes” — notes from the road, random thoughts in my head, behind the scenes, just a place for me to personally connect with all of you. It feels like so much of this industry is built around being a vendor, and not enough of it is about just being a person. The connection I want to have with you is that of a friend, a person who means more to you than just someone providing a service. Each couple I work with holds such a personal, special place in my heart that it’s hard to convey. This works best when I show up to your wedding as a friend who happens to have a few cameras on her. It’s important to me that you choose me because you like the way my eye catches your day. You like my interpretation of events, because that’s ultimately what a photographer is. You’re choosing someone who is actually an artist, and you just happen to align with the way that artist sees the world. I think that’s why I love when my clients are also artists or creators of some sort, too. This is so much more a collaboration than you’d think — each couple is the greatest art project to me, and although I might have a general technique I’ve honed over the years that I fall back on, I try to approach each one differently. Your story is unique and deserves to be approached that way.
Anywho. I’m going to start publishing little notes here and there on the Kindling Journal, because I want to connect with you. Each one is a doorway to a conversation — if you resonate with something in there, DM me, email me, whatever. Let’s strike up a conversation, because I’d love to get to know you, too.
I know there are lots of things I could and should be doing differently on social media. Posting more frequently, focusing on video, content content content yada yada yada. But I’m going back to the basics on this one — real, open dialogue between you and me. Let’s get back to the real stuff. Read my first field note at the link in my bio. I’ll see you there.
x,
Savanna
