I’m so grateful.

Thank you all for the kind, generous, and heartfelt support since my announcement about closing my business and shifting into a full time role as Gallery Director at Blue Spiral 1. I’m ready for this big leap, but knowing that I have the encouragement of friends, colleagues, and the community means so much.

I’m already blown away by the passion and talent within the gallery team, the remarkable artist roster, and the deep and meaningful relationships that have been built over many years. I will do my best to honor and nourish that foundation.

What about my photography? As I shared, I’ve closed my business and am taking a break from formal photography to make space and see how my energy around it evolves. My love for image creation and visual storytelling was born from slow, intentional curiosity and quiet observation. I’m excited to see how that might re-emerge. I’m curious what will unfold when I shift my focus from formality and perfection back to play.

This will be my final post here on Nicole McConville Photography. If you’d like to keep in touch, please follow me over on Instagram at , where I’ll continue to share life, art, and moments of quiet reflection.

BIG CHANGES + THANK YOU

There are moments in life when we recognize we’re stepping onto a new path. And sometimes, when we’re really fortunate, that step is an intentional one, made with clarity, purpose, and genuine excitement.

Today marks one of those moments for me. I am thrilled to share that I have joined as Gallery Director.

For 35 years, the gallery has earned a respected reputation as a cornerstone of our region’s creative community, built upon strategic vision, nourishment of lasting relationships, and honoring both tradition and innovation.

Throughout my working career, including many years in publishing and the past decade running my own photography business, I have been guided by a belief in the power of creative expression to connect people, inspire growth, and drive sustainable success. I have made it my practice in life and business to cultivate meaningful relationships, creating opportunities where creativity and commerce can thrive together. I look forward to continuing that in this role.

With this transition, I have made the decision to close my photography business, effective immediately. It is a choice made with deep intention, care, and respect. I have wrapped up my final shoots and have been moving through quiet stages of release and reflection as I focus fully on this next chapter.

Photography has been one of my greatest teachers. It has deepened my understanding of what it means to truly see, honor, magnify, and celebrate good people doing good work in the world. To the remarkable people and businesses I have been honored to collaborate with, and to the community that has supported and encouraged those efforts: thank you. We have made magic together, and I am so very grateful.

Thank you for being part of my journey and for the trust, encouragement, and connection that have meant so much. I carry deep appreciation for what has been and genuine optimism for what lies ahead. I hope you will join me in celebrating this moment of forward momentum and possibility!

In a world that can feel loud and hurried, my images are meant to offer a pause, a moment of quiet. Storytelling, at its heart, is about offering that first spark of interest and carrying the threads that reveal creativity, intention, and worth. Connection is an invitation to presence.

What can be created when intention and integrity come together?

I’ve always sought to live and work in alignment with core values: connection, community, empowerment, and sustainability. These guide not only my own choices, but also the way I approach the work I do.

When I have been fortunate enough to partner with people who feel the same about their own efforts, well, that’s PURPOSE.

Working with Maadili Collective has been an experience fueled with a passion for bringing something beautiful and good into the world. Their range of fair trade products, including handwoven baskets, horn jewelry and accessories, and textiles, are ethically created using natural and locally sourced materials by artisan co-ops in Uganda.⁣ Maadili means “fair and honest” in Swahili. And those threads are truly woven into every facet of the business. “We foster partnerships with small-scale communities and wholeheartedly believe that business can be a momentum for change.” ⁣

I recently had the honor of photographing their expanded horn jewelry line and am excited to share a few of those images with you here this week.

Work is about relationships.

The relationship between service provider and client, where trust and care are at the core. The relationship between artist and buyer, where creativity is honored and woven into daily life. The relationship between creativity and community, where shared vision and support allow both to grow.

The connecting thread in all of this has always been passion, commitment, and values. These are the foundations that make relationships meaningful, that turn moments into lasting ties.

My work is not only about what gets done on the surface. It’s about creating points of connection, honoring the efforts people pour into what they do, and amplifying that so it can be seen more fully.

At its core, my commitment is to:

Elevate opportunities by helping others step into the next stage of growth with support that opens doors.

Magnify good work by shining light on people and businesses doing meaningful things in the world.

Forge connections within communities and beyond, because shared visibility strengthens us all.

Our contributions to this path of amplification have the potential to ripple outward, carrying someone’s story further than they could carry it alone.

We find ourselves on the edge of a new season. The trees are beginning to blush with radiant color, the air feels different, and something inside us stirs too. Change has a way of reminding us that we’re alive, that there is always more to discover about ourselves and the world around us. To learn. To serve. To stretch.

What does it feel like to lean into possibility? To cast your eyes toward the horizon with a curious heart, ready for something new?

Through photography, I’ve learned that change is something to honor and celebrate. Each image becomes a reminder of a moment that mattered, a glimpse of who we were as we step toward who we are becoming.

This season, I’m grateful for the reminder that change is not only natural but necessary, and that each shift opens the door to something meaningful.

“Every time we work together I learn, grow, and see myself with more clarity and compassion.” - repeat client

I’ve learned over the past decade behind the lens that photography has the power to reveal, affirm, and expand how we see ourselves and one another.

Every session is an act of collaboration and trust. I witness transformations both subtle and sweeping. I see resilience and vulnerability, and I see the courage it takes to step into the light of who you are. These connections don’t fade when the shoot ends; they ripple outward into relationships, community, and the shared work of building something meaningful together.

I feel so much gratitude.

POSES FOR HEADSHOTS - Arms Crossed

Cross your arms. Take a deep breath. Notice how grounded and present you feel? This pose naturally carries a sense of calm confidence, suggesting that you are secure in yourself and open to others.

What I love about this pose is its versatility. The way you position your hands can shift the impression it creates. Hands tucked in, lightly showing, crossing one arm, or even lifting a hand can each suggest something unique, from compassion and engagement to accomplishment and assurance.

The key is in the details: relaxed shoulders, natural hand placement, and posture that feels comfortable instead of rigid. With gentle direction, this simple pose highlights confidence while still feeling approachable.

POSES FOR HEADSHOTS: Seated - Forward Lean / A Show of Hands

It’s no small thing to feel comfortable in front of a camera. My role is to create a safe and welcoming space where you feel supported, so your headshots reflect your natural presence. Posing is one tool I use to help you feel relaxed and confident, which leads to images that are both professional and sincere.

This week I’m sharing a few of my go-to poses. They are simple, effective, and adaptable for nearly everyone, regardless of body type, personality, or comfort level.

One favorite is the forward lean. When you sit and lean slightly toward the camera, resting your arms on your lap or a nearby surface, the energy immediately shifts toward connection. Pair that with direct eye contact, and it feels like your audience is truly “meeting” you.

I also love incorporating hands into portraits. Hands are expressive and can instantly add warmth, personality, and a sense of engagement. Hands can rest naturally at the chin, frame the face, or simply be visible to suggest openness and collaboration. Think about the last time you had an engaging conversation with someone where you wanted to convey a spirit of engagement, trust, and camaraderie.

With gentle guidance, even the simplest poses can communicate confidence, ease, and approachability.

Drama!

Every so often I love leaning into the dramatic effects that a black backdrop provides. Step into the frame and the focus rests completely on you. No distractions.

I know, I know. Pulling everything else away can feel intimidating. But I promise, I’ve got you.

With a dark backdrop, posing takes on a new dimension. Contrast and shape become part of the story, and subtle light shifts, movement, or expression stand out in a striking way.

And when these images are shared online, they stand out and capture attention. They feel bold, intentional, and memorable.

I love bringing this energy into my sessions, and I’m excited to share a few favorites with you here.

Curious about what’s involved in booking your own session? Want to talk through the possibilities? Reach out anytime with your questions, or schedule a free discovery call through the link in my profile. I’d love to hear from you.

I am deeply honored to share that I have once again been named one of the Best Portrait / Headshot Photographers in the Best of WNC Awards for 2025. I rounded out the list this year and am delighted. This recognition is entirely community-driven, with every vote coming from people here in Western North Carolina, which makes it all the more meaningful.

This has been a year unlike any other. Our region has faced extraordinary challenges, yet what has shone through is an equally extraordinary resilience. I’ve seen it in the businesses that have kept going despite setbacks, in the creative entrepreneurs who have adapted and persisted, and in the ways our community continues to show up for one another.

My work is fueled by fierce optimism and determined action. In elevating and celebrating those within the creative business space, I strive to provide visual storytelling that honors each person’s unique presence while also accelerating their opportunities for growth and success. The foundation of all of it is a desire to help good people do their good work. That’s my purpose, and it has never felt more important.

To my clients, past and present, THANK YOU. You are the reason I do what I do. Your trust allows me to help you be seen and celebrated, and I am so grateful for that opportunity. To my community, your votes tell me that the work I pour my heart into has an impact. That is an extraordinary gift.

Congratulations to my fellow photographers Carol Spagnuola and Sheila Mraz who earned the top two spots, and to the many other headshot and portrait photographers in our region who are doing their good work and sharing their talent and generosity so freely. Our creative community is stronger and more vibrant because of you.

And to those who have yet to step in front of my lens, I would love to help you show up for the next chapter of your story. Let’s make that happen.
