Ohhh myyy goodnessss..... is your heart melting over this photo too?
That tiny nugget in the middle right there is the one and only Henry that Zach and Jordan have been praying about forever!
Yes, he’s finally here and just SO unbelievably adorable!!!
The day of the portraits turned into a cold, rainy day and we needed a warm spot to keep sweet lil Henry toasty for his photos.
This is just the reason for a portrait studio and I am grateful to have this as an option for my clients. And, if you are a photog in the Asheville area that would just like a studio space on occasion, contact me for this possibility.
Dreamy photos like this await!
Ohh...and Jordan’s epic maternity photos will be posted soon too!!! Just wait till you see these- 🤩

Dear Sam and Evan,
It was one year and a few moments ago that you walked into the reception hall with a loud applause from the heavens above. There was not a dry as as you stepped onto the dance floor for your first dance and it continued into the heartfelt speeches that turned the tears into laughter. But it was your dad’s speech, Sam, that rung true to me. He gave multiple pieces of advice but two stood out. He said “walk together and be okay with the silence” with eloquent explanations. Purely simple aspects and yet these both hold true in my 18 years marriage that Max and I are lucky to have. We pray that you have experienced peaceful footsteps and an abundance of grace this past year and it is our hope that you dance in your kitchen tonight to the song that God has placed within your hearts.
Happy Anniversary
With love,
Sheila

Isn’t it funny to think about where this word started from? In this day, eloping isn’t secret or “with one of the maids” 🤣,
but a true sign of simplicity. The whole wedding industry tries SO hard to make you believe that you need a $50k+ event, but your heart and budget says otherwise. This is when the definition of elope changes from the above to...

Have I told you about the time that I met Carley? Probably not because I have been waiting until I had the time to devote to this divine encounter and I am embarrassed to say that this was almost 2 years ago now!
Well...get yourself a glass of whatever and settle on in as I tell you about the moment that I walked into the Liberty House Coffee and Cafe and looked around for someone who was also looking for me. I had never met Carley before, but I had just won her Simple Branding package @longlivesimple through a spontaneous Instagram comment and I still couldn't believe this luck. I was a combination of extreme nerves and pure excitement upon walking in and I wasn't quite sure if I was capable of creating full sentences. Luckily, Carley was just as sweet as her photo on her website and she graciously let me fumble into my seat and muddle a couple of words before introducing herself. Carley was the PERFECT person to recreate my brand image. She listened with diligent attention over the next three weeks to understand that I wanted something to portray my late father's mission statement, "to show the glory of God". I wanted to show that we are all reflections of light and that broken pieces can be made whole. These statements along with many others were crafted into a proposal and the geode icon emerged. This pointed to my previous sentiments along with the rare, precious beauty that we all contain. By keeping it simple (hence the name) this gorgeous icon surfaced and Carley could see my excitement once again when she presented it. To me, this brand shows that we are all reflections of the Divine who created us. My ultimate goal is for you to feel the tangible love that God has waiting for you in abundance within your photos.
Thank you, Carley, for listening so intently, for your crazy artistic talent and for your incredible patience. I hope that many other creatives can experience your passion and see their mission statement come to life in front of their eyes.

“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What do you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.“ – Jane Goodall
Don’t you just love Jane?
Gosh, I sure do and I can only hope that my footprints on this planet have contributed to a more beautiful place for others. I pray that my thoughts and actions support our earth so that my grandchildren’s grandchildren can run through the fields of life with pure delight. Happy 50th Earth Day, my friends!

True story:
Did you know that Max and I got married 11 days after 9/11?
Yes, I know what you are thinking...”Sheila, you can’t be that old!” I know, right?! 🤣

But in all honesty, I was freaked out that the world was coming to an end, but I still wanted to get married. I really felt guilty for going ahead with my wedding when there was crazy suffering happening everywhere.

All of this to say: I can TOTALLY relate to the brides out there right now even though this is a different scenario.
I bet that you are wondering if it is best to cancel, postpone or completely start over. Whatever you decide will be the right answer because it is YOUR day. For me, I decided to continue with my plans because I didn’t want to wait another day to commit my love to my beloved. However, no one dared to get in a plane for my wedding, so our guest list became smaller and it all turned out perfectly.

The best part is knowing that your love can and will survive anything!!!
When you start your marriage with a global pandemic, it’s only UP from here, right?! In order to stand the test of time, I knew that our commitment to God was the part that held true value and was going to keep Max and I together through life’s turbulence ahead. Thank goodness that I got that part right!

So, all of this is to say...love is the only answer and your magical wedding or elopement awaits your presence- whenever it may be.

The human touch.

Anyone else missing this these days?
Sometimes it takes a very challenging event to realize the things that REALLY matter.

It turns out that there are things that I could easily go without, but being able to hug my friends is one of those non-negotiables. I am a touchy- feely type of person and the human touch means everything to me.

Have you read the studies of children who grow up in an orphanage and seldom have human touch? I probably don’t need to describe how absolutely important this single factor is within early childhood. I would even argue that it is critical throughout every season of life.

Do you agree?
What do you miss the most in this season?

And I am (((hugging))) you right through your screen right now!

*if you want to know the behind the scenes story of this image, you’ll have to head over to my blog sometime soon to read about this hysterical moment.

Do you know your potential? Do you know the story that God has for you?
Today is good because it ALL has a purpose and a bigger picture (yep, even in a pandemic)! When we are able to step out from our own narrow view and able to truly see the whole picture, it all makes perfect sense.
I was reminded of this while on Black Balsam the other night. From where I was seated my camera only wanted to focus on the weeds in front of me. (Swipe to see what I mean.) My narrow view was missing out on the great vista just beyond. When I stood up and lifted my camera higher, it was able to take in the vast glory. Likewise, when I lift my eyes to God, the creator of all, I am able to see with a different perspective. My weeds turn into possibilities and my long range view into a bright future. “Look up, child” by Lauren Daigle is one of those songs that fills my heart with joy.
And there was another bonus waiting for me at the top of Black Balsam... Shelby and Josh, who had just gotten engaged, were beaming with delight and taking selfies. As a wedding photographer, I can spot out an engagement a mile away so I happily gave them an engagement session to document their glorious love for each other. (First photo)
Even in the midst of the storm, you are being taken care of. Even in your struggles, there is a bigger picture forming with a gorgeous sunset ending. This is the promise. @ Black Balsam Knob

Tuesday True story:
On a gorgeous fall family session at the UNCA Botanical gardens, I mentioned to these sweet siblings that I wanted them to act normal, without fake smiles or posed positions so that I could document their true selves, etc. Without even a second in between....this is what happened. Their parents who were standing at my side just said, "Yep, that's normal for ya!"

And right there, I absolutely feel in love with this family even more-

Especially during this season of quarantine, this is the new normal in many households. right? So, please comment below with your recipe for sanity in these times. For real, what kind of saving grace are you incorporating to make it through?

We are all in this together!

Oh friends… How are you holding up?

For me, I am documenting from a far and leaning into the beauty that surrounds us all. I easily fall into fear from time to time, but grateful to have joy-filled friends that remind me that hope is alive. I can easily say that I adore each of these people here and seeing them from afar lifted my weary heart when our world is producing worry in every outlet. It is my hope that you can surround yourself virtually or from 6 feet away or more with those that lift you up, who have an unshakable faith and love that fills your heart with deep peace.

Put your earbuds in and listen to a podcast of encouragement and songs that fill your heart. Get close to your family and be present with them. This is what we can give during this time of crisis. The beautiful ripple effects of joy can be your emotional cure. Praying that you feel this too!

Hello my friends, it’s been a rough minute. Just like you, this week has taken me through every emotion possible and some that I didn’t even know I had access to. Whew!
But today, I made my family dress in our spring attire and welcome this season with joy. And I’m offering this (with social distance!!!) to you as well. There is a completely empty field of gorgeousness for you and your family to run through. It is an hour drive from Asheville and these pink blossoms will only last for the next few days. Let me know if you’d like some spring beauty added to your crazy world right now. This mini session is half of my regular price: 20 minutes for $125. Saturday 3/21 starting at 5:30pm. And with the high of 76 degrees, it will really feel like spring. I will stay far away, and simply document your family’s beauty for you. This just may heal some of your worries and bring some extra love to your home. 🌸💕

Important Medical UPDATE:

***There is something even more contagious than the Corona virus that is stirring around!!!

There is this thing called LOVE...and it is airborne! Please proceed with caution because no means of isolation can stop it. LOVE is completely contagious and it spreads from heart to heart instantaneously sometimes just by a glance across the room or the sound of a loved one's voice. It can increase your pulse and has even been known to take your breath away. It has been scientifically proven that LOVE is the most powerful drug to date and is actually legal in every state!!!

Doctors everywhere are now advising to give it lavishly to others and without abandon as soon as you get it. It has been known to harm those that hoard it and keep it completely to themselves. It is also true that LOVE is the most sought after commodity (even beyond toilet paper) and is priceless in every country. And the even more crazy thing is that LOVE increases in wealth when you give it away.

Please proceed with caution when you receive love. Evidence has shown that people have done crazy things with too much of it or not enough. Therefore, it is highly advised to find those that need to feel LOVED. Since physical hugging is not recommended at this time, know that love letters and phone calls are still a thing.

The purest form of LOVE was last seen at Haiku I Do in Asheville, NC on 3/14/20 as Charlotte and Joe tied the knot with their family and friends present. May this love continue to surround and spread throughout your lives in every season.

Tuesday Tip: Being surrounded on your wedding day with paparazzi and constant family and friends can be completely overwhelming even to the biggest socialite. So intentionally planning quiet moments away is extremely important to simply reconnect with your partner and remember what the day is truly all about. It’s a blissful deep breath, a gentle hug and sweet kiss that can instantly transport your worries away.
What’s your Tuesday Tip?

I know.....I can’t believe it’s true!!! It’s already March?!!!!
How did this happen?
*
Every new month fuels me to look at my goals again and really decide how I am going to show up for my clients to the fullest!!
*
My Spark 2.0 Mastermind group has already reported in with their goals for the week and I’ve just checked in with a handful of my Spring brides to make sure that they are on track.
*
It all takes community, right? It takes accountability to stay on track to make sure you don’t wander off like this ADORABLE one year old in this photo here who just wanted to crawl away at every chance during our photo session yesterday.
*
The good news is that you don’t have to crawl away when life gets tough. Surround yourself with a sister tribe to make your goals feasible.
*
This is your month to make that happen because This is your year!!!

thanks for the invite! I didn't know! How exciting and how amazing your gift!
Thank you, Sheila Mraz Photography for capturing us all so well... this is one of my favorites. #likepuppies
We can’t say enough about how thankful we are to have had Sheila Mraz Photography shoot our wedding day (and engagement shoot). Sheila Martin Mraz is so passionate, and her positivity and enthusiasm is truly contagious! The planning process for me was a bit of a nightmare and I wound up changing everything multiple times (venue, caterer, big wedding to small, etc.). She was so open to the changes (even last minute ones) and never let stress take over. Sheila has a calm about her that is so perfect and so lovely to be around, especially on such a chaotic, exciting, and emotional day! Her husband Max was our second photographer and he is just as fabulous as she is. They are the perfect team! (#relationshipgoals) They worked so well together and were so much fun to be with. On the morning of the wedding, Sheila greeted me with the most perfect vanilla latte (much needed) and jumped right in. Our wedding ceremony was taking place at my father's home so I was a little worried about what the background of the photos would be like but she did an amazing job! She captured all of the little moments so beautifully; we will cherish these forever. I am truly in awe of how she shot every little detail and every little moment of the day. I might have cried more happy tears looking through the photos than I did on the day of the wedding. She got all of the little moments with my nieces and nephews, my two brothers, my father helping set up, and so much more! Sheila also shot our engagement photos back in October. This was my now husband and I’s first time having professional photos done. We were a little nervous and not sure what to do or how to “pose.” Sheila took away all the nerves. Within the first few seconds it felt like there wasn’t even a camera there. She talks you through it and lets your personality and love shine through. We would recommended her 100 times over and can not wait to have her shoot future milestones in our life. Thank you so much Sheila and Max! - Caitie + Adam
Goodness, we had Miss Sheila take our son's senior pictures and some family pictures, too, and it was like we were on some zen walk. Peaceful, relaxing and just lovely. Could not have had a better experience, and the pictures turned out great, too. Thank you, Sheila.
Why is there no option to LOVE this page?! Love you, Sheila! Your photography is gorgeous!!
