Yeah I’m still out here. Still way off algorithm and still absorbing the world with some film tests, rescans, and junk camera experimentations.
I have to admit I love seeing all the things I grew up with coming back. The music, clothes, cameras, vinyl, cds (what?! We all thought those were gone), art styles, on and on. I even saw a long tracking shot on a Netflix series that looked just like some of the weird 80s TV shows I used to watch on the three channels we had. Yes three. And have you seen the YSL campaigns lately?! 👌
That’s the beauty of art. The timelessness of it all. The fact that the inspiration flows through the artist and lasts forever. For us all to discover, rediscover, and share. I saw an exhibit recently of south L.A. artist Kenzi Shiokava. Seeing his work from five decades of living and breathing art was the creative boost I needed.
It’s wild to think that I photographed a few friends’ weddings entirely on film before some of you were born! Flash on a Holga like 25 years ago. I was blown away by the Holga work in the early 2000s of photographer and environmentalist James Balog. Equal shout out to my photography professor at the time Marc | Fine Art Mail Club for making sure we understood that we should have Holgas in our toolkit.
Anyway, happy 90’s summer. It really was the best of times, I wish more of you could have been there with us. We could have mowed lawns together and listed to Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness on CD.
