During a trip to Cades Cove in the early morning fog last month, I was struck by the contrast of the bright yellow grasses and the monotone of the tree before sprouting out, surrounded by the mist. There was a meditative quiet to the scene.

This beautiful flower is called beardtongue. She was captured at Grandfather Mountain in their native plant garden two weeks ago during the nature photography weekend.

Thank you to those who pointed out that these are not trout lillies as I stated earlier in this post, but the flowers are called Blue Beads.

While hiking the Craggy Pinnacle trail a couple of weeks ago, I was charmed by a clump of Blue Beads (Clintonia) growing on a mossy rock, surrounded by mossy rocks. I kicked myself for not having brought my filter, so the leaves have some highlights, but the yellow flowers are still so sweet.

Log Hollow Falls in Pisgah Forest, taken today. Photographer and photographic tour guide extraordinaire, Everette Robinson, will be taking a CNPA group on a waterfall outing later this week. Unfortunately, I signed up too late, so decided to go on my own. This is one of the waterfalls folks will be visiting.

Another view of sunset at the Woolyback Overlook on the Blue Ridge Parkway this week. I loved the way the blooming goatsbeard and the fir tree seem to be reaching in longing to the sun.

Sunset from Grandfather Mountain, Friday night. One of the very special perks of the Nature Photographers Weekend is that it is only one of two times a year when people are granted access to Grandfather Mountain early in the morning before sunset and late at night and overnight camping is allowed in the park.

As mentioned in my last post, I attended the Grandfather Mountain Photography Weekend. This image is of a bluet taken among the rocks at the summit with the help of one of the speakers, Jane Palmer, a fabulous speaker and photographer.

The center of the tiny bluet truly glows. When I studied field botany at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville (an elective while getting a graduate degree in nursing) we were shown how flowers emit light and colors that human eyes cannot see, but the bees and other insects can. The center of the flower glows, almost beyond the visible spectrum.
