I first met Serena & Mason one year ago at their engagement shoot and their love for each other was undeniable.

Last week we were able to capture their day at the gorgeous Castle Ladyhawke in Sylva, NC. Thank you Serena & Mason for allowing us to be part of your incredible day.

Chantel & Philip’s winter wedding was full of love and laughter and we had a blast being part of their day. Their reception was at Homewood in Asheville and I’m going to be biased here, they had the best dang playlist that I have ever heard. Their DJ friends from Florida rocked the evening out and were the absolute bomb. OK, it’s because I was a 90’s raver and their list appealed to my taste in music and their friends knew to how to PARTY!

A wonderful group of vendors came together to create a day to remember:

I have a LOT of weddings and elopements to share with you from 2024 and I will. 2024 brought beautiful clients and vendors my way…and so where do I start? For starters here is a Trash the dress session at Looking Glass Falls in December. Katie and Paul were married at the wonderful Homewood the day prior and the following day they braved a sunset shoot with us in the snow and ice. Wow, what a way to end the year. They were utterly smitten with each other and we were with them.

A few images from the studio session with the adorable Andreia. Andreia had modelled in the past and was looking to create some new imagery that celebrated her!

Going to a studio is a very vulnerable process and I don’t under-estimate what it takes to go under the microscope, or should I say under studio lighting.

Creating a comfortable and safe space is paramount to my process. Studio photography is for every woman at every age.

Trust me when you do not need to be a model. Having time in the studio, allows us to be present and intentional and find how to express the true you.

I will be offering a 40 over 40 campaign for the rest of 2024.
I’ll post more information in June - so tag anyone who you think might be interested, so that they can follow along. As someone who is over 40, I want to celebrate women from 40 to 100.

This does not need to be a gift for your spouse or partner, this is a gift for you!

Women over 40, you’ve earned it.

My studio is based in Asheville, North Carolina and I would love to celebrate you at your age, as you are right now!

When Mason & Serena contacted me, I just knew that we were going to have a blast. We were planning their engagement session and wanted to create something that was unique.

So, we hopped over to the lovely Castle Ladyhawke (where they will get married) and then went to the reserve for some canoeing and splashing around.

Serena & Mason had dinner plans for that evening (and Serena had paid out for hair & makeup) and then your photographer (me) says: “wanna get wet?”.

There was no hesitation and there they were soaking each other but creating memories that will last for a lifetime. We were all soaked and thank goodness for my heated seat on the drive back.

Having an activity on your engagement shoot (or family shoot), really helps to bring about authenticity and that is what I am constantly looking for.

So, if you have a family session planned and you’re worried about feeling awkward or self-conscious, plan something that the whole family can get involved in. It helps to loosen everyone up and gives you amazing photos. Your photographer can be a wealth of information in guiding you as to what is right for your family.

Thanks Serena & Mason for the blast that we had!

If you’re looking for a venue that has a fairy-tale like backdrop, you should go and check out Laurel Falls Life.

Not only is the setting pretty darned sweet (it has its own waterfall) but it’s less than 30 minutes from downtown Asheville, plus you and your crew get to stay there for a couple of nights!

The setting was perfect for us - we had gorgeous backdrops and dream vendors to work with.

Tell me that you don’t serious wood nymph/fairy vibes from Nicole. This was her getting-ready dress…she was ready super early and so we just had to get in some pre-bridal “bridals”.

Oh and check out those shoes with vines for laces.

It’s tricky to find the words about how fabulous the two day wedding celebration of Nitika and Chip was. I will have many photos to share, it’s hard to choose!!!

I decided to go for the pink theme to start with and I will create separate posts for individual venues next.

Nitika had such an eye for detail, as you can see by her choice of glorious outfits, decor and venues. All of course helped by the many wonderful vendors who made this day possible. And above all else, the love, respect and support that they clearly have for each other.

I would love to relive this celebration over and over.
It’s hard to close out a chapter when it’s involved an incredible amount of planning. Kudos to everyone involved for pulling this off.

One of my best buddies in the UK just asked me how much editing I have to do after a two day Indian wedding (which was AMAZING btw). I didn’t send him a written reply, I sent him this image instead. 🤣

OK….I tried really, really hard to pare down the number of photos to upload from Chris & Marisa’s elopement session but I couldn’t get it any lower!

This was no “ordinary” elopement. They were officially married last year but wanted to celebrate with a 6 month all-day adventure having fun!

We met at 5.55 a.m. - meaning a 4 a.m. wake up call for me (3 a.m. for the bride). But how beautiful does she look?

I gave everyone the heads up to start driving early as the parkway would be dark and the animals would start to be lively at dusk. Yep, I saw three animals crossing the road, including a bear, so I was extra glad that we were poodling along. While no camera captured those moments, just living and breathing it makes the start to the day extra special.

We hiked up to the top of a mountain, just before a huge storm swept through - but then look at the clouds and the color in the sky. I swear that none of this was exaggerated in editing.

After the mountain hike, we wanted to head to a waterfall hike but the heavens opened - and I don’t mean “pretty rain” but torrential.

So, we suggested an alternate falls and it’s amazing how a few minute drive and being patient for 10 mins can mean the difference in weather around here!

The mist sprayed off of the falls, which due to lots of rain, meant that the falls were plentiful. Just enough to breathe in the fresh air, invigorate us and be grateful for how lucky we were to live in the Asheville area.

After the falls, we headed to the river, where we dipped our toes in the water, Christopher pumped up his inflatable kayak and we had a picnic by the shore and had a lazy afternoon on the river.

It was so relaxing that none of us wanted to leave. Birds singing, water rushing and great company. Lots and lots of laughter. The early start is always worth it - you can doze later in the day!

We finished off the day with some play in the park and all of us left feeling on a natural high that a day spent in nature gives you.

We finished at 2 p.m. - yet the 8 hours felt like 3 hours, wedding days go by so quickly.

Elopements can be tailored to individual couples needs and we’re up for all suggestions. They happen rain or shine so it’s great to have someone with local knowledge who knows where to head to in case of inclement weather.

Let me know what you think and what your wedding was like. I’d love to learn more about your wedding day and what stood out the most for you. What would you do differently?

If you’re already married, congrats - but you can still head out on an adventurous day and relive it with us.

Martin Wedding Films did video footage for this incredible day.
