A few words about photographer Donald M. Jones. All of Jone's wild subjects are just that, wild. He refuses to photograph any subjects that are pets, confined in zoos, or kept in game farms. His images are authentic and his message is "Keep the Wild in Wildlife".
As a full-time professional wildlife photographer since 1993 Don has established himself by continually offering new images of great American species, year after year.

We're excited to share news of the recent release of over 400 recent wildlife images by Donald M. Jones for home decor prints. Visit the link below and use the pull-down tab to search for his work by name.

We are sharing the news about Tui De Roy's new book project that needs support- a comprehensive survey about the lives of sea turtles worldwide, and the issues facing their survival.

"This book, THE WORLD OF SEA TURTLES, will blend beauty and science, displaying to the world both the mystery and majesty of these true 'dinosaurs amongst us'. And I have the best of partners for the project, RODERIC MAST, world expert on Sea Turtles, who'll write the text. A large format volume, it will contain hundreds of high quality photographs in 260 pages, published by Princeton University Press in the fall of 2025."

Dragons Living Among Us
A relative of Sea Horses, Sea Dragons are covered in intricate, leaf-like appendages that mimic seaweed perfectly. This "leafy" disguise helps them blend seamlessly into their environment, hiding them from both predators and unsuspecting prey. Dragonflies are known for their swiftness, agility, and vibrant colors, reminiscent of the mythical dragon's dynamism and powerful presence. Komodo Dragons' imposing size and prehistoric appearance evoke awe and respect, similar to the mythical lizard's aura. These cannibalistic and venomous animals are the world's largest living lizards, reaching up to 10 feet in length and weighing upwards of 300 pounds.

Over 200 new invasive species are recorded each year and it is estimated that all invasives carry a global cost of almost half a trillion dollars according to a new report published by IPBES.

Invasive species - plants and animals introduced into a habitat where they thrive to the point of crowding out native species or decimating their populations by hunting the locals. Climate change is aiding in the expansion by these aliens along with global trade.

Red Imported Fire Ants introduced from South America have painful bites that injure field workers, kill young birds and displace local wildlife. Cane toads that were first introduced to Florida in 1936 to control sugar cane pests now prey on native amphibians and are poisonous. Lionfish, supposedly aquarium escapees, alter the ecosystems they move into. Studies indicate that a single lionfish residing on a coral reef can reduce recruitment of native reef fish by 79%. Water Hyacinth out-competes local plants while robbing water sources of critical oxygen.

Muskoxen Thriving in Alaska
Muskoxen once roamed across northern Europe, Asia, Greenland and North America. By the mid-1800s, overhunting and possibly unfavorable climatic conditions eradicated the herds from Europe and Asia. By the 1920s, only a few remained in Greenland and the Canadian Arctic.

In May of 1930 the U.S. Congress granted the U.S. Biological Survey $40,000 “to acquire a herd of muskoxen for introduction into Alaska with a view to their domestication and utilization in the Territory.” There began an 8,000-mile adventure, the moving of 34 muskoxen from Greenland to the Alaskan island of Nunivak. The journey — by steamship, train and barge — lasted six months, including one of quarantine spent in New Jersey.

Muskoxen from the Nunivak herd were later relocatd to other parts of Alaska. 71 were established on the Seward Peninsula in two separate waves. The animals thrived. According to Alaska Fish and Game the current population of oxen in this region has reached around 3,400 individuals. This success has led to regulatory changes permitting subsistence hunting of muskoxen possible to all Alaskan residents who register for a permit. And what about the plan to domesticate muskoxen? A small herd of docile animals are located near Anchorage where they are raised specifically for qivit - their underwool which is used to make soft and warm clothing. Photo ©Donald M. Jones
