Noah Kahan wrote this song for his mom, and it’s all I could think about when I was crafting this post. We had a full moon on one side and a sunset on the other for this beautiful mommy and me session. She said, “I hope I did enough! I feel like all I did was kiss him during our shoot,” and I said, “that was more than enough.”

I don’t need my clients to pose. I just need them to simply exist with their kids- just like they normally would (except in a wildflower field at baby’s bedtime- that’s probably not their norm). I don’t give a lot of instructions for what to do with your little, and that is done very much so on purpose.

Gorgeous dresses from Trista Smith are all part of my client closet. Awesome Harley was a family heirloom, which made this session so unique and authentic to this family. Rainbow baby girl has some really cool photos of her parents waiting on her arrival 🪄

These past two weekends have been total whiplash. So many beautiful families… Christmas cards, annual update; pregnancy announcements, newborns, first photos, and last photos. Emotionally, I’m taking it all in and trying to compartmentalize all of the stories I’ve heard. I never really considered the heart-side of this business, but being drenched in busy season has really consumed my whole mind- even my dreams! I love what I do and I have been so blessed with this job… the chance to celebrate being human with so many people, and being able to be present with my family by making my own schedule fit our lives. From the bottom of my heart, if you’ve booked me, thank you for fueling my dream.

If you have been on here long enough with me, you probably know that I grew up in Southern California. I have done countless (and I mean COUNTLESS) beach maternity sessions on tourist-destination beaches. I’m telling you- nothing compares to this Great Lake beach or this maternity session. There was so much simplicity and beauty and moments that quite literally took my breath away on this September evening. This family trusted me enough to be silly and fun and they were so patient with me when I said “OPE, sorry, one last shot” before the sky turned into cotton candy. And the best part? I get to be one of the ones who meets baby first for a fresh 48. I also get to be the one who does a family session and a one year session for them. If it sounds like I’m bragging, it’s because I am! 🤩

Unpopular method: I invite clients to send a mood board. Some may say this could set a false expectation for the client, but I say boo on that. Mood boards help guide my eye- not for a certain shot, but for a vibe. The mood board helps me find a mood for the gallery. Does my client want intimate? Playful? Editorial? Whimsical? All the above?

Hey friends! Just a quick update as I navigate the crazy, busy season that is fall for photographers. November is almost sold out, but I do have ONE opening for a family session or maternity and ONE opening for a newborn. I took an SEO course by Dani Purington | Elopement Photographer a year or two ago, and one of her first big lessons is writing a paragraph about your ideal client. As a former teacher, I live for quick writes. It is through her writing activity that I believe I actually manifestedfamilies like this one- parents who TRULY value family photographs. Not for holiday cards or social media posts, but for actually documenting and remembering their most important and fleeting life seasons. Families who come to me for the whole story- announcement, maternity, fresh 48, family, and first birthday photos. The ones who get silly and make connections with me… who laugh and play and let their kids be kids… the ones who share themselves and stop worrying about what they look like in front of a camera and choose to focus on what they FEEL like. I delivered this gallery today, and even though we had the most picturesque location for her maternity session, I think we could have shot this anywhere and it would have felt just as “them” as it did on this beautiful Wisconsin beach.

Since yesterday felt like summer, why not share some more goodies I’ve been holding in my camera roll since August? This was my first summer doing Wildflower sessions as minis, and they are almost too sweet to not want to bring back again next year.

This year, I did something experimental with my mini bookings, and I attribute that move to the reason I sold out every single mini spot for 2026. It was the five-image session. I have to be honest… I don’t know if that package is coming back in 2027. Selling out mini sessions is absolutely what we want, BUT I felt myself burning the candle at both ends, still editing as much as I would for my 15 image package, and if people didn’t buy the gallery, the fruits weren’t quite worth the labor. In business, things are often about throwing stuff at the wall and seeing if it sticks! Will the smaller package stick? I’m not saying it’s completely going away (maybe), but I’m definitely not offering additional photos in the small package again. I learned a lot this year and I met so many beautiful families because of those sessions! Thank you to all of my clients who stay with me as I make choices and changes that affect them. You guys are why I do this 🌻
