We were cruising on the Ring Road in Iceland, my wife sleeping soundly next to me. All I could think of while my worship playlist played through Spotify was "when can I finally see the magical Icelandic Northern Lights?" As I looked out of my car window, the clouds in the sky seemed to be glowing. This could not be; I must be delusional. The Aurora Index was a low 2.

I had learned that cameras could see colors better than human eyes. So I took my phone out and faced the camera towards the clouds. Lo and behold, my phone camera showed the clouds as green! I gently woke my wife up and told her the clouds were northern lights. She dreamingly looked at the "clouds", unimpressed. Understandable, since they really just looked like some glowing clouds through our naked eyes. I then decided to stop at a pitch black rest area so that I could take some photos with my DSLR on a tripod. We were not ready for what God has prepared for us.

The sky lit up. The faint glowing aurora spread and started dancing from horizon to horizon, bathing us in a 180° light show of green and sporadic red. We stood in awe and all we could say was wow wow wow.

It was truly an unforgettable night.

My travel mates were sleeping soundly as I cruised along the hilly road; hills after hills, winding in between the Alaskan Range. As I was driving over the top of a seemingly higher hill, I glimpsed ahead briefly, and immediately gasped! The road stretched straight ahead and there were no more hills. Lying beyond the horizon, glowing in white, were endless mountains heavily capped with snow. I gave my now-stirring-awake girlfriend a tap on the shoulder and whispered, "We have reached the Arctic."

Took a trip to Muskegon this weekend with a bunch of friends. Here is a drone view of the shoreline along Lake Michigan. Michigan truly has many hidden gems!
