While we are sitting in our places of quarantine waiting it out, this photographer came up with a fantastic idea that documents the “now” while shooting beautiful editorial fashion photos. Bravo!

I am not sure if I agree, but I like the quote anyway...

“Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.”

I saw Little Women. A quarter or so into the film I was saying to myself that I've seen this movie many times before. I wasn't bored, I just felt that I was sitting in a mediocre place. And then I began to realize that the performances from all of the cast and Gerwig's direction were ramping up to something extraordinary. The sometimes rapid-fire dialogue came across organically and the calm, but intense monologues were sincere. It's absolutely worth seeing (even if you are a fan or not of the genre). 7 out of 10.

I saw '1917'. Hands-down the cinematography in this film is as innovative as you will find. My jaw was dropped throughout the entire movie as I witnessed a flowing lens glide with the action in an almost seamless way. DP and Camera A Operator Roger Deakins is the true star here. The film doesn't have a flaw when it comes to its art direction and visual storytelling - All truly stunning. Where it does come up short is with its lack of deep dialogue. Frankly, much wasn't written to hold the actors accountable. Yes there were moments, but basically this film leaned on its ability to blow you away visually and not impress you with words (In a way this film reminded me of the great ride we all got when we saw 'Gravity'). Is '1917' worth seeing? - Yes it is and very much so (see it in a theater). 8 out of 10.

Note: I’ve decided after a year or so of negligence that I’m going to get back on track in the new-year with the writing of short movie reviews. So, to warm up a bit, here’s some thoughts from a viewing I had last night…

I saw Uncut Gems. To say that it is an anxious ride from the opening to its end-credits is an understatement. The frustration I had for every character within (minus the children) was deep. Poor decision-making, ignorant lifestyles, and blind greed ran rampant. With that said, it'll be hard for you to find a film with performances that are this good. They all handled the rapid-fire dialogue with ease and had me believing that these people actually existed. For example, I am certain that some of the quick scenes between Adam Sandler’s character and some others were performed by non-actors who work or “hang” in the jewelry industry – Yet all the performers blended together naturally. Sandler himself was outstanding and was a driving force throughout. This performance was reflective of what he accomplished in the forgotten (or not seen) ‘Punch Drunk Love’ (Great film). I loved the acting, dialogue, edit, direction and art direction – All worthy of big praise. With that said, there is something that is telling me that I don’t need to see this film (at least not right away) again. But if I were you, I’d go see this before the end of the year. 8 out of 10.

You gotta love the behind the scenes at Kodak.

Since 2015, a growing enthusiast market and a goose from cinematic heavies such as directors J.J. Abrams and Christopher Nolan have helped 35-millimeter-film sales rebound. The trend spurred Kodak to revive Ektachrome.

For those of us still shooting film, this is great news.

March to Impeach Trump, Ann Arbor, MI 2019

I like many other thousands of people in our country took to the streets last Sunday afternoon to demonstrate. The message being conveyed was that there needs to be swift proceedings regarding the investigation and ultimate removal of Trump from office. The demonstration that I participated in was peaceful, passionate, moving, and inspirational. I am proud to live in a city where its citizens feel comfortable enough to stand up and express their beliefs. Get involved and bring someone with you.
