With the constant changes in technology comes constant changes in the Law. With confirmation from several State Officials and the DNR, it is now considered LEGAL to locate a DEAD deer with a drone in Indiana (including thermal)! 2023 will bring new successful ways of locating downed deer! Sometimes, bad shots happen. Let me help you find your deer! I understand that many will love this Law and man

y will hate it. Some will deny that it is legal period! I'll do my best to explain how the Law works according to the DNR:

(IC 35-31.5-2-342.3 states that a drone may not be used to aid a hunter in the "TAKING" of a wild animal. The definition of "TAKING" is described in this Law as "KILLING". Since the "TAKING/KILLING" of the wild animal has already been completed (or to the best of the hunters knowledge), the drone is therefore only allowed to be used to find a DEAD deer. This is the part that can get CONFUSING......If the drone pilot locates a wild animal (deer) that is NOT dead, the pilot must stop the search and may not inform the hunter of the wounded animals immediate location. If the hunter knows the immediate location of the wounded deer, the drone pilot would then be considered aiding in the location of the deer for the hunter to "TAKE/KILL". CONFUSED YET????!! With any law that changes, it will take a few years to get used to, but I believe being able to recover your dead deer will be GREAT for the sport and for the respect for the animal itself. The best advice is to hire a licensed pilot who knows the exact Law in what State they are flying in. They all vary. Paying an unlicensed pilot may also get you a HEFTY fine from the FAA!! We’ve received messages and concerns regarding a northeast Indiana drone recovery business promoting and advertising for recoveries in Michigan. THIS IS NOT US. It is ILLEGAL in Michigan. We follow and keep track of law updates every year for surrounding States to insure our clients will not get into legal trouble. We have known for 2 years Michigan outlawed drone recoveries but verified it with MDNR earlier this week. We hope this law changes but as it stands now you could receive a hefty fine, your deer will be confiscated, and possibly lose hunting privileges.

Pretty wild last couple of days! Yesterday morning, hunter called and knew they made a questionable shot and watched the buck walk off. They didn’t attempt a track and I got there at 9:30am. Located the buck alive and bedded less than 120yds from the shot. I could also see the hole and verified it was far back and might take awhile to die. Went back last night at 8:00pm and found the buck moved beds about 50 yds and still alive. Went back this morning at 9:00am (27 hours after shot) and the buck was dead in the same bed. I love this job. Congrats to the hunter on his best buck to date!

This year I dropped follow up recovery price from $100 to $50, just enough to cover gas and drive time.

One of our biggest recoveries! Congrats to the Hunter! Appreciate all the calls this weekend! Some celebrations and a few heartbreaks finding them alive. But, we’re still 100% on locating every deer tracked so far! The next 2 weeks is gonna be busy!
