We just got back the first roll of film from our new Kodak Ektar H35. These are some of my favorites of the 72 shots I was able to eke out of a regular roll of 35mm iso400 film. The H35 is a half-frame camera, so I can get in twice the number of shots (at half the resolution, of course). It made the transition from digital a little less jarring.
I haven't shot on film since I was a child, and I felt like a child shooting these. I had to slow down and really think about my photography like I'd never held a camera before. I can already see how this is going to improve my digital photography, but I also think I'll be shooting on film a lot more in the future.
Huge thanks to for taking care of my film. If you're jumping back into film photography, definitely consider sending them your film. Awesome customer service and a super quick turnaround.
I hope we can keep businesses like this around. I think film can make a comeback if people embrace the unique qualities of film photography. It's a whole different experience from digital or mobile photography. It feels like a totally different artform and, in a way, feels much more tangible.
I hope people start filling up photo albums again. I hope to hear more film advance wheels clicking and rewinders whirring. I hope I'm blinded by more flashes. It's a novelty, not a necessity, and it's going to take work to keep it alive, but I think it's worth it.
