Taking a longer, closer look at what’s beyond the obvious is what I most like to encourage with my images, such as reflections of tiny ice crystals bouncing off the back of a green leaf, a lush carpet of lichen, light dancing on the intricate pattern of a

mallard’s colorful feathers. My intent in using this form is to focus in on the details of the unmatched artwork of nature. While I am the first to take opportunity to travel to other places, I want to stress that we need to go no further than our backyard to find the beauty of hidden treasure. Form, color, quality of lines, and most importantly, light, are all elements of art, that are so visibly apparent in the canvas set before us to enjoy. My desire is to evoke in the viewer a need to pause and look past the subject directly in front of them, realizing that there is so much more to our world around us than can ever be imagined or thought of by man.

Last week, I came upon this sundog stretching the width of Little Campbell Lake in Kincaid Park. The second photo is when I walked up close to one end of it, and was able to capture the ice crystals that formed the sundog. It was quite a magical experience!

I am happy to announce the 2017 desk calendars featuring my photography around Alaska. This year, I've upped the design, making them larger, so that each 3"X5"photo can be easily framed once the calendar is expired. Each calendar comes in a 7.5"X4.5" clear acrylic case that folds out into an easel for easy display. They are $20 each, plus shipping and handling. There four varieties...Scenes, Wildlife, Flora & Fauna, and Alaskana Mix (a little bit of each from the other three). Please private message me if you are interested.
