Alaska has very few roads, which means most exploration has to be done by air.

With vast, untouched wilderness ranging from glaciers to volcanoes and fjords to forests, there is never a shortage of eye candy out here.

I can only imagine what pilots get to experience on a regular basis, and I hope to become one myself one day. 🤞

When I moved to Alaska, I had never been to Anchorage before. Coming in on the highway to this view reaffirmed every decision I had made, and I knew I probably wouldn't be leaving anytime soon 😅. Almost 5 years later, this view continues to take my breath away.

Overlooking the historical Anchorage-Palmer Highway, better known today as the Old Knik River Bridge and Old Glenn Highway.

In 1936, the Old Knik River Bridge (on the left) was built to connect Anchorage with the Mat-Su Valley. By 1975, vehicles no longer used this route and instead traversed via the newer bridge (on the right). The old bridge is still available for pedestrian traffic.

Today, there is a "new" Glenn Highway that serves as a more direct and faster route, but for anyone looking for the "scenic route," the Old Glenn is definitely where it's at! 😍

Springtime at Eklutna Lake means lower water levels and exposed glacial silt. This ultra fine sediment is created by glaciers grinding against underlying bedrock.

Deposits are then made in the water, and ultimately become part of the shore as water receeds. Warmer temps then cause everything to dry out, crack and form a unique landscape best described as "Planet Alaska."

Not an ideal picture because they were super far away and I also had to crop, but I just happened to find my first moose calves of the season when I wasn't even trying 😅

Imagine walking out of your home and instantly being face to face with one of these beasts. 🤯 With little to no time to react, this could end badly if you have not taken proper measures of checking outside before exiting.

Alaska is full of extremes and farming is no different. Rich soil combined with 20 hours of daylight in the summer yields record breaking fruits and vegetables from the Mat-Su Valley.

In 2025, one pumpkin weighed in 1,820 lbs alongside a cabbage weighing 84 lbs. These tasty treats are then donated to local wildlife establishments in order to provide ample meals for all relevant critters. 😋
