I came out of retirement for a very special family. I have known Stephanie (groom's Mom) since she was a kindergartner! She and my daughter were best friends all through her Amherst Co. school days. Stephanie's son met the love of his life and they asked me to photograph their special day. It was such a joy to witness this beautiful and Christ-centered wedding. Congratulations Rebecca & Manny! Well, yes... I still take photos, but this was a freebie! It was the 2nd annual Valentine Pet Photos, "Paws for a Cause," by the Amherst Women's Club. We raised funds for the National Scleroderma Research Foundation, and praying they find a cure for this dilbilitating and deadly disease. I even got to photograph a boa constrictor and a little itty bitty week and half old billy goat!

As a gift to a friend, I had the pleasure of photographing Jill and her "kids" at her beautiful farm on Sunday. Her pups are precious and they do love their mom!

I came out of retirement to photograph my sister's brother-in-laws wedding and reception. It was a beautiful September afternoon with a slight breeze and warm temps. The James River was moving softly by, and family and friends gathered to celebrate the union of Kim & Pie.

Even though I’ve “officially” retired my photography business, I’m still taking photos! Yesterday (as a board member of the Awareness Garden) I took the photos at the capital campaign kick-off. The Garden will be expanding! We’re adding a new parking lot (badly needed there) and expanding the footprint of the garden with new walkways, sculptures, etc.

This garden is very special to me now more than ever. My father passed from lung cancer, and there’s a memorial brick in his name on the walkway. My nephew Ryan is a cancer survivor, as well as myself, and currently my brother is fighting (and winning so far), stage 4 lung cancer. Cancer for us is a family affair and it’s so nice to have a serene and beautiful place to visit when life gets to hard. God designed nature to help us, and this little nature preserve does that for me and so many others.

Occassionally I come out of retirement to photograph a special person... Stephanie is my other daughter whom I love dearly, along with all of her family. She and my daughter grew up together and was very much a part of our lives. Later, my Mom and her Grandmother shared a room at Fairmont Nursing Home, so our families came full circle.

Stephanie is a recent Masters graduate of Grand Canyon University. She mastered it (pun intended) with top grades, all while working at Nelson County Middle School, running a very successful school track team, serving along side of her husband who is a pastor, managing a personal leadership consulting business and raising three amazing children.

Congratulations Stephanie! I, and all who know you, are so proud of all you have accomplished!

Yes, I’m in love with another woman! Sophie is now the center of my life. (However, my husband, kids, grandkids and grand-pets all come in a close second!)

From time to time I'll post some photos here... I'm still shooting but just not as a business. First up is Sophie! She's the newest member of my family. She joined us last Monday evening, coming all the way from Georgia. She's four years old and has already taken our hearts! Today I pulled out my big Canon for the first time to shoot Sophie. I think she likes being the center of attention!

This was such a fun event to photograph! We had about 20+ pups and one bunny stop by with their humans for their Valentine photo shoot. Myself and Maggie McCanna took photos and just had the best time meeting so many adorable pets! Donations received are going to scleroderma research.

I'm still taking photos, but this time it's for a community service project. I would love for you to bring your pet for their special Valentine photo this Saturday at Emmanuel Methodist Church, in Amherst (10AM - 2PM - no appointment necessary). Your pet will receive some Valentine's goodies and you will also have a chance to win a big stocked full basket of pet supplies!

To top it off, your $5 donation per pet (and raffle proceeds) will all go towards research to find a cure for Scleroderma (a life altering and currently uncurable disease that affects several people in our area).
