Today AFD academy class 5-26 performed their wildland skills and I had the honor of capturing it for them. They performed drafting operations, cutting in a fire line, how to properly use the tools to their advantage, and a few other skills. We also got to see the 2 brand new Grass rigs that AFD has recently received. G-3, and G-6. These are vital for the grass fires around here and to go on deployments to help other areas when needed. Early this morning AFD "C" shift was dispatched to a structure fire on the north side of Amarillo. With quick work AFD was able to contain the fire to the structure of origin. Yesterday was a busy day for "A" shift. AFD had a busy day running medical calls car accidents, alarms, and had 2 fires on the day. This one was going pretty good upon their arrival. The crews got a very fast knock down and then had a lot of overhaul. Thank you for keeping the citizens safe and doing what you guys do! This was my first job to photograph for AFD. I didn't realize it until a brother reached out to see if I had pictures and after jarring my memory a bit realizing I was there. Today "A" shift was dispatched to structure fire. Upon arrival across the street from a school with lots of little eye's glues to the windows watching their hero's work, AFD firefighters found a RV on fire and extending into a garage structure. Quick knock down saved the garage and no injuries to personnel, and the peering little eyes across the street definitely had something to talk about at recess!
