Well, friends, it’s finally happened. I’ve always been pretty relaxed with how clients use the images they pay for, but AI is a different beast.
AI systems “scrape” billions of images (copyright be damned) from the internet without consent to train its models. This means artists who’ve spent decades refining their skills are being ripped off, poorly imitated, and losing work.
When I take a photo, it’s a capture of time. It’s a one-of-a-kind collaboration and I prefer it stay that way. It’s an intimate moment with another HUMAN BEING. It’s vulnerable. Something AI can never be.
Please know I understand this post won’t put an end to AI. I know it can be a useful tool in fields that are far above my pay grade. It can help medically diagnose sooner, improve tech that improves lives, and process data at speeds that can accelerate scientific breakthroughs. But, in all of those instances, it’s a TOOL…not the be all end all final answer.
As for artists, it’s a blatant ripoff. It takes away a soulful connection. It cheapens the experience and spits in the face of those who dedicate their lives to a craft. You do you, but not with my images. Please and thank you.
