J Greg Burgess Photography

J Greg Burgess Photography Photography, for me, is the perfect medium for the expression of my artistic vision.

My primary objective is to highlight the beauty of our created world; to experience God's creative hand through images of nature and wilderness; to share thoughtful insights; and to inspire and encourage introspection through the power of God's Word. Through the utilization of light, shadow, color, line, form, mood and element, this vision is one I continually work to develop and refine. I enjoy l

ooking for artistic composition in the simple as well as the complex, the actual and the abstract, the expansive and the intimate. Photography is a medium that is wholly compatible with my primary desire, which is to experience, explore and share the beauty of our created world. Being an avid outdoors enthusiast, and one who relishes the opportunity to interact with nature and wilderness; photography enables me to go out often in search of natural subjects in order to uplift, refresh and inspire my spirit. By doing so, I find that our Heavenly Father - the ultimate artist - has provided infinite subjects to be marveled by. These amazing and inspiring subjects, many fleeting, are always present out there whether or not any human eye happens to be present to witness them. This being the case, I most often work in the natural landscape, but also truly enjoy photographing wildlife as well as interesting historical locations and other special places of interest. Being a banker by profession, photography provides me with an ability to gain release from the frenzied pace of the working world, as well as to express and share my inner vision through this engagement with the natural world.

"Vermillion Peak, Golden Horn and Pilot K**b"
Lizard Head Pass, San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado

Vermillion Peak, 13,894', to the right, is a prominent 13'er in San Juan Mountains. These images were taken from Lizard Head Pass along Hwy 172, between Telluride and Ridgeway, CO. Golden Horn is in the center and stands 13,780' and Pilot K**b, to the left, is part of the broader ridge system associated with these peaks, which also included Fuller Peak and Beattie Peak - all 13'ers. These peaks and ridge line showcase striking red-orange colors which certainly standout from Lizard Head Pass.

"North Face View of Longs Peak"
Rocky Mountain National Park, CO

Longs Peak is the tallest 14'er in the Front Range, standing at 14,255' in elevation. It is unquestionably the monarch of the Front Range, which contains six 14'ers. Longs Peak is the 15th tallest peak in Colorado out of a total of fifty five across the state. On clear days, Longs peak is easily seen to the northwest from the city of Denver, but the best views come from areas west and southwest of Estes Park, including RMNP.

"Alpine Lakes: Bear Lake, Nymph Lake and Dream Lake"
Rocky Mountain National Park, CO

Image 1 & 2: Bear Lake, elevation 9,475'
Image 3: Nymph Lake, elevation 9,580'
Image 4: Dream Lake, elevation 9,905'

The Bear Lake Trail is a beautiful and very popular hike in this southeast portion of RMNP, and does have some elevation gain as you visit each of these very lovely alpine lakes. Bear Lake is the first on the approx. 1.2 mile trail, Nymph Lake is second and Dream Lake is the third lake on the trail. There is also a fourth lake - Emerald Lake -further on and sits at 10,111' which I did not visit on this trip.
Each of these distinctive lakes feature a different and increasingly exposed view of the very dominant Flat Top Mountain which overlooks each of the lakes and the glacial cirque in which these lakes are located.

"Early Foggy and Colorful Morning Lighting on Grays and Torreys Peaks"
From Keystone, CO

Beautiful very early morning light illuminating Grays and Torreys peaks, two 14er's situated in the area just west of Keystone and east of the Dillion, Silverthorne, Frisco areas which I have had the fortune to be able to ascend in years past. Grays, to the left, is the highest at 14,275' and Torreys, to the right, is 14,267'. The deep lighting and low hanging fog running through the middle of this image and billowing over the ridgeline add a wonderful mood to this image as well. One of my favorite captures from my recent time in Colorado!

"Heavenly Lighting: The Chapel on the Rock"

This beautiful little Chapel has become one of my favorite sites to photograph when I am in the area and is especially beautiful this year, being enveloped in soft light and fall colors. The Chapel on the Rock, also known as the Chapel of St. Catherine of Siena, is located south of Estes Park CO and just north of Allenspark, CO on State Hwy 7. This beautiful and peaceful little Chapel was completed and dedicated in 1936 and is currently designated as a Colorado Historical Site. The Chapel is part of Camp St. Malo Visitor & Heritage Center.
