Product photography requires strategic planning too! Here’s what to expect when you work with me.

Before the shoot, we’ll begin with pre-production that involves research, mood boards, and planning. I’ll present a shoot plan with various concepts for approval.

Once approved, we move into production. This involves sourcing props, models, backgrounds, sets needed for the shot. I’ll create a detailed shot list that I’ll use for the day of the shoot.

Today you’re in for a treat, sis! When I started as a product photographer my number one question was “Where can I buy good props?” So I’m sharing all my favorite spots to find props.

Product photography has been a passion of mine for quite some time and it's one of the services I offer. I recently received new strobe lights and had to take them out for a test drive out. Verdict: ❤️❤️❤️ You'll definitely see a lot more products shoots.

One of the misperceptions about creating content is you have to have the latest and greatest equipment.⁣
⁣
I'm here to tell you it's not entirely 100% true. Of course, having the Canon 5D Mark IV with the 70-200 mm lens will make your photos super sharp and extra crispy.⁣
⁣
But I know you're on a budget so I'm gonna keep it really simple for you.⁣
⁣
You can still create amazing photos with your phone but the benefit of using a DSLR gives you free range and better image quality.⁣
⁣
If you're using a crop sensor DSLR camera you can create some amazing photos with basic lenses like the ones I have from Canon and here's a breakdown of what I use to create my content. ⁣
⁣
📸50mm f2.8 referred to as the "nifty fifty" is a great starter lens and costs around $125. It's great for beauty shots or portraits. The lens is sharp and proves the bokeh (blurry background) that everyone loves. Not suitable for full body shots unless you plan on standing 10 feet away from your camera because it crops you in the frame really close. It’s one of my favorites to shoot beauty close-ups. It's a prime meaning it doesn't zoom.⁣
⁣
📸24mm f2.8 known as the "pancake lens" is wide-angle and costs around $150. This lens is sharp, proves that blurry background, perfect for vlogging, full-body shots, portraits, flat lays, and beauty shots. Since it's a wide-angle you will notice a slight distortion if you're not centered in the frame. It's also a prime lens and doesn't zoom.⁣
⁣
📸18-135mm f3.5-5.6 is a great wide-angle telephoto lens and costs around $300 to $500. This lens is versatile works great for photo and video. It's a zoom lens that allows you to change your focal length that can mimic 50mm or 85mm. There is some bokeh depending on which focal length you choose. This is an underrated lens because it doesn’t have a large aperture like most prime lenses. I use this one a lot for creating video content. ⁣

I'm sharing words of wisdom today so tag a friend who needs to hear this. You have to put in the work and if it's something that you truly enjoy doing, it won't feel like work. ⁣
⁣
When you view things as work sometimes you may feel a little less motivated to get the task done. Trust me sometimes there are days where I don't have the energy or I don't have the inspiration but if you truly want to make it then you'll have to put in the effort. ⁣
⁣
I'm transitioning from being a graphic designer to a creative art director while working full-time and being a mom to my active 6- year old son. It's scary a move but a great opportunity to help new and struggling businesses succeed in creating a visual DNA for the world to enjoy. ⁣
⁣
Let me say this because it's important...I'm doing it all from my living room. YES! I don't have a fancy studio or office but I'm making it work with what I have. ⁣
⁣
So put out your work, have fun in the process, and reap the benefits later. Of course, you're going to make mistakes along the way but that's how you'll learn and grow.⁣
⁣
Now stop beating yourself up because you're not where you thought you would be but success doesn't happen overnight. ⁣
⁣
