Everything else is coming out of hibernation, so it's my turn, too!

Being an outdoor photographer in Minnesota means basically taking a hiatus from November - May. But now that the trees are budding, I'm itching to get back to it.

For as long as we've lived in this area, I've been wanting to photograph a session at Inspiration Peak...but I knew it would be best to do with a family I had an established relationship with due to the location and hike.

Considering I've photographed Blake and Emily's engagement, their wedding and their newborn photos when Bostyn was born...it only felt right to schedule their family photos at the top of the peak during sunrise. And it did not disappoint.

This is my good friend, Susan (and these were taken on her birthday two days ago!)

And guess what? She’s also a photographer in Alexandria. But rather than view one another as competition, we’ve embraced one another as humans and as educators. We have a friendship, but we also learn from one another. We share equipment. We get to be part of a community rather than competing businesses. And I think that’s pretty kickass.

A wedding disguised as an engagement party?! Say no more.

When I reflect back over the phases of life, Jillian is in every one of them.

From elementary school play dates, to awkward middle school dances, to late night high school drives, to college roommates.

And while adulthood may have us in an each other lives more peripherally, there’s still something so special about existing alongside a human who is in so many of your memories.

Yesterday I had the honor of photographing her marriage to the love of her life. The best part? Their families didn’t even know it was a wedding. They were told it was an engagement party.

And it was something special. To see the way they look at one another, especially when the other isn’t necessarily aware, is to witness a palpable love.

I hope these photos convey even a fraction of that. 💙
