What an experience!
The journey to get to this day took 7.5 months.
And what a ride.

All I wanted was a photography studio in my backyard.

Somehow that turned into foxes, YouTube tutorials, a busted sprinkler line, landscaping, trenching, lots of concrete, stairs and a new driveway.

But the biggest thing I didn’t plan for?

You.

So many of you have followed this project, cheered me on and asked what happens next.

Seven years ago, having a studio was exactly what I needed.

Today, I’m choosing something different.

The longer I’m in business, the more I understand that growth isn’t always about getting bigger.

I disappeared over the summer.

I needed a break.

After nearly seven years of having a commercial photography studio in Old Town Alexandria, VA, my lease ended in June and I chose not to renew it.

I’ve been working on what my next chapter in the business looks like.

Apparently, I decided it should involve demolition, contractors, landscaping, concrete, electrical work, permits, a garage full of photography equipment and six baby foxes (aka Kits.) 😂

I’ve been documenting this journey since February and I’m finally ready to share the story.

There’s still one piece out of my control.

On October 7, I have a Fairfax County public hearing to determine whether I can welcome clients into my new home studio.

Yep it’s quite possible all my efforts could be in vain - but I’m optimistic based on a recent County site visit.

So for the next few weeks, I’m taking you back to where I started and bringing you along as I find out how it ends.

This is The She’d Project.
