To anyone interested in history and photography...
At a storefront in downtown Staunton, Va., is the largest collection of cameras on display to the public in North America. I took a ton of photos on a tour of the Camera Heritage Museum recently and interviewed the founder. The first part is up today; see comments below.

So much has been and will continue to be written and said about the day we know as 9/11 — September 11, 2001. Last year, I wrote about that day and the anniversaries, on which a number of significant life events (good and bad) have happened.

"My memories of 9/11 are fragmented and personal, not societal, and I have trouble separating the day from what has taken place since."

In some ways, it’s difficult to comprehend that almost 25 years has passed since 9/11. My weekly “Visual Story” (see comments) pays tribute to that horrible day with photos from the World Trade Center site, the Pentagon, and the Flight 93 memorial, among other places, that I've compiled over the years.

Take a look, and may we never forget.

This week's "Visual Story" was a look at Theodore Roosevelt Island close to home. The memorial to our 26th president is an island accessible only by a bridge in Arlington, Va., which makes it one of the best-kept secrets to tourist visiting the D.C. area. See comments to access the story.

This week's "Visual Story" is a look back at a visit to Gruene Hall, where I photographed a Charlie Robison concert in September 2016. In digging through the archives I also found two short video snippets I took of the much missed Robison performing. I didn't include them in the piece (link below) but thought some fellow music fans might enjoy them.

We went to Wintergreen on the 4th to celebrate with family and escape the crowds. I also photographed the storm that eventually would delay or postpone events across the East Coast for a new “Visual Story” (see comments)

I realize I’m not here much these days but wanted to give this a try. Some time ago, I started posting visual pieces (a combination of photos and narrative) on Tuesdays as part of the storytelling I was born to do.

Today’s looks at the Eastern State Penitentiary, which opened almost 200 years ago in Philadelphia. Below are two photos from my visit to this “preserved ruin,” and you can see more by going to the comments below.

I've recently been working on a five-part series that looks at photos taken in abandoned buildings in Detroit in 2015. The first installment (see comments below) features dancers in the graffiti filled St. Agnes Church.

Recently I had the opportunity to photograph Susan Derry’s cabaret, “Unexpected Songs,” at Creative Cauldron Stage. We also sat down for an extended conversation that was illuminating and a lot of fun. To read the article, go to the comments.
