Happy One Year Anniversary to my wonderful husband! I can’t believe it’s been we’ve been married. I’m excited to see what this year brings. I love making memories with you. ❤️❤️❤️

The best part of this year was marrying my true love and the next best was every other moment I spent with you!

Going into vacation, my biggest worry was my flight getting cancelled from Hurricane Helene and not making it to Asheville for the family reunion. I was aware it would rain and there may be some flooding in parts of Asheville but nothing concerning. It was raining as we drove to Asheville Thursday evening but looked forward to exploring the next few days.
We woke up the next morning without power. I still wasn’t worried. It didn’t strike me the extent of damage until we left to go check on Steve’s Aunt and Uncle that lived about 10 minutes from where we were staying. We passed by 10-20 downed trees in that short distance and then our path was blocked from going any further.
We decided to drive downtown to see what the state of the land was and if we could find power and coffee. Some kind souls were in their coffee shop supplying the entire town with coffee. Downtown was lucky to still have power but cell service was down. Finally, found the Aloft and was able to get connected with friends and family and let them know we were safe and able to have some pizza to hold us over.
Once the sun came out, we tried our way back to Steve’s Aunt and Uncle. We found a route that had been cleared and made it to them to check on them. Thankfully they were all fine, a tree had fallen but thankfully missed the house and cars. A neighbor that was lucky to have a gas oven and offered to cook some chicken and the neighbors all supplied what they could. We returned to our Airbnb with a candle, a French press, and hope that tomorrow would be better. The next day we learned we no longer had water. We determined we needed to figure out how to leave Asheville. We determine the only way out opened at 10:30 and decided to take it. At around 12:30 pm, we made it to Charlotte.
It was horrific to see all the damage. Full towns wiped off. People scared about their loved ones. It wasn’t something anyone prepared for. It will take years for this area to recover. I feel grateful my family and myself were all able to make it out safely. I can’t stop thinking about all I saw and it really struck me how kind everyone was and willing to help each other.

The veil! I spent 7.5 months making this veil for myself. It was pure blood, sweat, and tears and it turned out perfect.

Anyone that knows me, knows that I love color and that I had to incorporate it somehow. After trying on a few colorful dresses, I knew it needed to be in the veil. Before even finding my dress, I toyed with the idea of buying fabric and making my own but wasn’t sure if the vision would match the end result. And let me tell you, it did. I would spend 4 to 5 hours every evening working on it and it was well worth it.

The process:
1. Bought 3 yards of tulle with white embroidered flowers ($50)
2. Spent about a month cutting out each individual flower
3. Hand painted all of the flowers until beginning of June ($15 (already owned all the acrylic paint))
4. Bought a plain cathedral veil ($20)
5. Spent a month and a half sewing every moment I got
6. Wear it in my wedding day (priceless)

I knew I could just buy a veil and I would be happy but nothing was comparing to the vision I had in my mind. I am overjoyed I took this project up and with the end results.

Swipe to see my vision with my dress followed by the process.

It’s National Dog Day! Divot recently had the important job of being the ring bear for his mom and dad. He did a great job of security guard by keeping the seagulls away. All day all he wanted to do was be next to his mom. 🥰
