Thank you to my team at The University of New Mexico, my alma mater and home. I’m lucky to do this work alongside such amazing colleagues. Feeling incredibly grateful for the people who have supported me along the way, especially Ethan Rule, Debra West, Cinnamon Blair, Carrie Phillips, Baleigh McCoin, and Caylin Blockley, for your mentorship and encouragement.

🥇 Honored to receive a Gold Award from the Collegiate Advertising Awards for this series done for the College of Nursing!

It was tough to narrow it down to just six photos for the entry. The goal of this series is to reflect the breadth of learning and environments within the UNM Nursing program. The images capture a practicing nurse in a clinical setting alongside moments in study groups and faculty advising, highlighting both hands-on care and academic collaboration.

I shot my first roll of film in the fall of 2011, back when I spent hours in the darkroom and didn’t yet own a digital camera. More than a decade later, I returned to film and shot two rolls.

I photographed my neighbor’s garden (the two color images were photographed on my iPhone through the viewfinder), a bowl made by Acoma and Navajo artist Josiah Concho with studio lighting, and the New Mexico State Fair. The light meter didn’t work, I used a prime lens with manual focus, and I had to relearn the darkroom, and I loved it. Slowing down to take the photo, then developing, printing, and scanning the negatives.

Life got busy, and I must admit I haven’t shot film since the early fall, but I’m hoping 2026 brings time for creativity and joy to everyone. 💫

Casey + Nolan’s fall wedding felt like a storybook with gorgeous locally grown sunflowers, soft golden light, and the sound of a string quartet playing through the breeze.
