Black Canyon of the Gunnison is an amazing place. Here's a star trail photo over the canyon at astronomical twilight so the colors in the sky were changing. There were also many clouds. This image is a blended image. I received 1 photo of the foreground and immediately recorded thirty-one 20 second exposures of the sky and then blended them all together.

My niece Kathy McClain asked what it was like to be there at night. Kathy, thanks for the reminder to talk about the experience. Night photography is so peaceful and magical as you stand looking up at the beautiful sky with an amazing number of stars. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is a very narrow canyon so the sound of the water is very loud even when standing at the top. The combination of dark skies, stars and the never ending rush of water made for an unforgettable night.

Last week I spent a night at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park in Colorado. I was hoping for Milky Way and Star trail photos along with early sunlight on the Painted Wall. Unfortunately, it was cloudy. Hopefully I’ll have a photo to share later when I have time to look at them. The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is an amazing place!
