Most of golden hour gets spent pointing the camera at the sunset itself. I've done it a thousand times, feels like. Last evening I turned around.

What is the last thing the sun wants to see before it sets?

It was this willow, just at the edge of this little lake. I found my spot between these two trees, used them to frame it, and took the shot.

Something is shifting in how I'm seeing things lately. More on that soon.

Cataloging efforts continue and still trying to post more often (I'll do better). I went back a little further this time, to 2014. It's just tough, after hours of sorting, deleting images I once may have thought were good, finding one that I actually still like, editing it, and posting it...for the algorithm to show it to 11 people and a bot. But what's the alternative? What's the purpose of a photograph that's never seen by anyone other than the photographer? That seems like the bigger waste. If even one person (other than me) sees this and appreciates it, that's better, right? Asking for myself, potentially...

Canandaigua Lake sunrise. January 30, 2026.

Step inside the frame. 🎞️

Trying something a little different today! It’s easy to miss things when you’re just scrolling by on a phone. When this photo is viewed on a high-resolution display or printed large-scale, there is so much detail and texture that a standard post just can’t convey. ❄️🔍

I put together this edit to hopefully capture some of those details you might otherwise miss. It’s my first time experimenting with this pan-style edit— let me know what you think!

Slide 2: The original still 🖼️

Does the video add to the experience? Did you notice anything that you would have missed in only the single frame?

Has it really been that long since I posted? Did I disappear? Maybe a little. Did I stop shooting? Not a chance. I’m back with new energy and a mix of fresh and archival photos — let’s get into it. I’m also diving back into my long‑overdue project of cataloging my archives. With the whole ‘2016 nostalgia’ wave going around, it felt like the perfect excuse to jump back in.
