Over the last few years, I made a pretty big change in my business. If you're wondering why I went quiet, here's why:
As AI became more prominent, I took a hard look at my own kids’ digital footprint and decided to significantly limit how and where they show up online.
And then I realized I couldn’t justify doing that for my own family while continuing to post other families’ children for marketing. It's hypocritical and unfair.
So I stopped. I actually stopped back in 2023.
I don’t share identifiable images of children on my social media. I understand this goes against the traditional advice in the photography industry to “show what you shoot.” And yes, this has impacted how I market my work, which has, in turn, greatly impacted my booking volume. But I believe that protecting the privacy of the children I photograph is more important than visibility.
That’s true even with parents' permission. This isn’t about what’s allowed, it’s about what feels right to me as both a parent and a photographer.
You are always welcome to share your images, and if you tag me, I’m genuinely grateful. But I will not be the one putting your children online.
But what I think might be true for some families, is that this matters more than seeing a perfectly curated feed.
I also understand that prospective clients might like to see the product that they're purchasing, so if you’d like to see my work, I do have private portfolio galleries I’m happy to share via direct link.
If you’ve ever hesitated to book photos because of privacy concerns, this space was created with you in mind.
