They met at a benefit auction. Their wedding toast included handmade auction paddles from kids who were excited about their union. I don’t think it gets any better than that, honestly.
I’ve known Kate for quite a few years. Until their wedding day, the only things I knew about Jamie were that he made Kate happy, he had a great smile, and that he seemed fun. Watching him helping his sons get ready for wedding day showed me he was an incredibly thoughtful, sentimental, and detail oriented guy, and honestly: immediate fan. I’m not sure if it was their sweet ol dog, seeing said dog’s face on wedding socks, experiencing his kids’ humor, watching them read for fun while they waited, or the little signs of thoughtful parenting around the house that got me, but I was SO excited for this wedding by the time I headed for the church.
One of the perks of being a photographer at weddings is that people tell me the best stories. I don’t understand this bit of human nature, but I love it. Never stop. This wedding’s story times were a little extra special, because all evening, folks kept coming up to me and telling me the best stories about Kate and Jamie, not knowing that I knew them outside of my job. Several people stopped to tell me a deep and meaningful Kate friendship story about a time when her showing up for them really mattered. And that is exactly who Kate is.
(For me), one of the most special parts of a wedding is the room full of people who see you and love you and are loudly cheering on your happily ever after. This was definitely that. Kate and Jamie, your love story and your family are so special. I’m so glad you found each other. Hearing your kids’ versions of your love story in their toasts was quite possibly the most endearing toast and roast compilation I’ve ever heard. Watching your children roast you while welcoming their new person into the fold tells me that your future holidays will be so loud with laughter and I’m just so excited for all of you. Congratulations.
