In 2018, I had the privilege of photographing Mr. Yellow, the extraordinary male Northern Cardinal with yellow plumage discovered in Alabaster, Alabama. Described as a “One in a Million” bird, his remarkable appearance captured international attention and brought widespread interest to this exceptionally rare occurrence.
Nearly eight years later, his legacy continues. To date, 19 additional confirmed sightings of Northern Cardinals with yellow plumage across nine states have been documented:
Alabama • Florida • Georgia • Louisiana • Michigan • Mississippi • Missouri • Pennsylvania • Tennessee
The effort to identify and document additional yellow Northern Cardinals continues. If you have observed or photographed one, please share your photographs, location, and sighting date with The Yellow Cardinal. Visit the page for additional information and current sighting records.
Please share this post to help uncover additional sightings and continue the legacy of Mr. Yellow. Each share expands the reach of this effort and may help document another of these remarkable “One in a Million” birds.
It remains an honor to have photographed Mr. Yellow and to see the interest his discovery continues to inspire.
