This image of a Gray Crowned Crane was made under heavily overcast skies in Kenya. The soft light preserved feather detail beautifully, but the raw file lacked the contrast, depth, and color needed to convey the elegance of this remarkable bird.

In this edit, Talor focuses on shaping the light rather than making dramatic global adjustments. Using a series of carefully placed masks, she adds depth to the background, guides the viewer's attention toward the face and eye, and enhances the crane's spectacular golden crown while maintaining a natural appearance throughout.

The goal wasn't to create something that wasn't there but to to reveal the qualities that first caught her attention in the field.

What is it about the desert right after the sun sets? The quality of reflected light transforms a landscape that only minutes ago appeared flat and colorless. It's always worth sticking it out a little longer before packing up 😉
This was taken during our Images of the Ancients workshop with and the one and only . This workshop is unlike anything else out there and it sells out nearly 2 years in advance ever since we worked to launch it. Pretty proud of that!

How long did it take me to blend this focus stack of moving flowers you ask? Well, let's just say I'll never do it again! Here's a hot take for you: I think focus stacking is generally overrated. In recent years it seems like there's a fixation on achieving perfect front-to-back sharpness in every shot. Sure, it's a great skill to know and, at times, it's the only technique that can help you achieve your creative vision. I'll concede that point.
HOWEVER, focus stacking also removes a sense of depth from an image. Think about how the human eye works. Your periphery is blurry. Actually... everything in your field of vision is out of focus except the object your eyes are actively looking at. Front-to-back sharpness is simply not the way we see the world around us.
As always, to each their own and I look forward to the dissenting opinions in the comments. 🤣

I'm sweating in the Everglades right now and reminiscing about this gorgeous cool evening spent wandering through the ice in Northeast Greenland National Park.
This is the largest national park on Earth and it is truly mind blowing at every turn. The geology and wildlife are incredible, but like with everywhere else in Greenland, the ice is what makes the magic happen.
I'm so stoked to return to this frozen paradise in September with ! We have a couple spaces still open, so if you're in search of a truly unique trip and some cooler temps at the end of a hot summer then come join me!

⚡️One last-minute spot has opened up! $500 OFF! This is one of the most unique trips I get to run. A rare opportunity to see the remote western side of Southern Patagonia all aboard our lovely sailboat. This is a place where mountains come straight out of the ocean, rainforests wrap around glaciers, and wildlife abounds at every turn. The contradictions and uniqueness seriously will make your head spin!
