When people book a session with me, one of the first things they say is:
"I just hope everyone behaves..."
"My kids probably won’t cooperate..."
"I’m not photogenic..."

And I want you to know something: you do not need to show up perfect.

You don’t need perfect outfits.
Perfect kids.
Perfect smiles.
Perfect moments.

You just need to show up as you.

Because my job isn’t to create perfection. My job is to capture connection.
The laughs between poses.
The way your child reaches for your hand.
The moments you didn’t even realize were happening.

Me talking to myself after saying for approximately 1,472 days, “This is the year I’m updating our family photos.” 😂

No judgment if family photos aren’t your thing.

But for me? I kept saying I was going to do it… and then never actually did.

Until tonight.

The session is booked.
The family has been convinced.
The outfits have been purchased.
The hair appointment is on the calendar (because my daily hairstyle is basically just a messy bun).

Why does it matter so much to me?

Because these photos become part of our family’s story.

Years from now, I want my boys to look back and see how we changed, what we looked like, and remember what life felt like during this season.

Some of my favorite conversations today start with old photos.

“This was when…”
“Remember when…”
“I can’t believe…”

And this year feels especially important.

It’s the beginning of our last real summer as a family of five before Bayden graduates and starts preparing for college.

So while this reel is me poking fun at myself, it’s also a reminder that sometimes the things we keep saying matter to us… deserve to actually happen.

Stop waiting for perfect.

Perfect conditions.
Perfect timing.
Perfect plans.
Perfect motivation.
Perfect confidence.
Because perfect has a funny way of keeping us stuck.

Instead… ask:
What’s the next best thing I can do today?

Take the walk.
Send the email.
Go to the gym.
Post the thing.
Start before you feel ready.

Progress has changed my life way more than perfection ever could.

And most of the time? The people who keep moving aren’t doing everything perfectly.
They’re just refusing to stand still.

Can we talk about perfectionism for a minute?

Because I think a lot of businesses stay stuck here.

Waiting for the perfect website.
The perfect logo.
The perfect content.
The perfect photos.
The perfect offer.
The perfect plan.

Meanwhile… months go by.

And while you're trying to make everything flawless, someone else is simply showing up.

Not perfectly.
Just consistently.

I’ve learned this in my own business: perfection rarely moves the needle.
Showing up does.

Posting before it feels polished.
Sending the email.
Recording the podcast.
Launching the thing.
Letting people see the human behind the business.

Because people don’t connect with perfect.
They connect with real.

I used to think people who weren’t perfectionists just “didn’t care enough.”
Now? I think the opposite.

Because I’ve realized some of the most meaningful parts of life are messy.
The kitchen after everyone made breakfast.
The imperfect family photo where someone is laughing too hard.
The workout that wasn’t your “best” but you still showed up.
The business post you almost didn’t share because it wasn’t polished enough.

I honestly think perfection can steal so much from us.
It steals time.
It steals joy.
It steals presence.

And maybe one of the biggest things I’ve learned over the years is this:
You can care deeply… without needing everything to be flawless.
You can still create beautiful things.
You can still be intentional.
You can still show up fully.
Without carrying the pressure of “perfect.”
