Thinking of what a blessing to see something like this is. I appreciate the beauty of fog and a black bear in a beautiful setting like this is something you just don't forget. Complete silence except the sound of the river. Reminded my friend and I of a Robert Bateman painting. 🎨💓

I don't know why we chose to hike here or where exactly to go but we chose the right spot. As the fog lifted and the sun came out we hiked along a gravel bar. Low water levels has made this quite easy this year. We hiked a ways until we reached some trees that were across our path. We knew a bull had been there recently because there were new tracks in the wet sand and fresh droppings. We turned around and I couldn't help but go into a field that was close. It was a little difficult, but we made our way over some logs and through some willows. As I focused on what was ahead I heard my friend behind me say, "Amanda, he is right there!". I turned to my left and there he was just yards away! So absolutely beautiful! it was one we had been looking for. We had woke him. He was so tired he had not smelled or heard us. We stood still taking pictures of him, not moving. Astonishment, relief and a little nervousness swept over me. He looked at us and then slowly walked towards the river. We watched him cross the river. A cow and calf had met up with him and he disappeared into the willows!

We could not have had more of a PERFECT day!! Wow! There are so many pics I am sharing just a few tonight. I will be sharing more soon. It started with an elk herd, then dense fog, a bear, lots of grouse and deer, and a beloved elk! I will start with the bear story. The fog was so dense this morning it was hard to see. We were looking around and I spotted what looked like bear ears behind some willows on some yellow grass. It was! We had to push the side by side to the side of the road so we didn't make noise. crossed the river and snuck up where we could see him. Wow! He ended up winding us and just slowly turned and went the other way.

I know I say this a lot, but this may have been the best day ever! Here is a glimpse...I will share more later!
