A marvelous surprise when a cheetah decided to pay us a visit jumping on top of the vehicle hood. The only obstacle in between my camara and the attentive cheetah was the bumper.
Cheetahs are quite curious rather than aggressive. They only want to know what’s going on inside the vehicles that stop to watch them.

"At sunrise we headed to higher lands in search of a leopard and after driving the intricate paths, bordering the bushes and marshes, suddenly we saw a leopard's head sticking out from the bush.

A second later followed another young male, and when we thought we had the best of luck to find the two of them, the third adult male appeared following them up close.

They roamed around the slopes coming in and out of the lush bushes, until the female leopard and her young son lead their way towards higher grounds. While the male joined them hovering around the female trying to mate with her. This precise instant was priceless, as in a matter of seconds they disappeared again back in the bushes."

There is a story behind this capture.
For some time we followed 3 cheetahs stalking a Thompson gazelle. They were combing the grassland hiding and ducking inside the tall grass, not to be averted by the victim. Suddenly, just meters away, they jumped upon the antelope and proceed their kill. They were taking turns watching for any intruder, when at far distance an adult lion appeared watching the whole scene.
The three siblings with their acute sense of smell and hearing knew there was a present danger, so they hurriedly eat what they could, seemingly nervous watching over their shoulders.
Minutes after, the lion came down heading their way and just when it appeared close enough to become an imminent danger, the cheetahs ran away leaving great part of the kill behind. The lion stood for a moment staring until the cats disappeared in the horizon, and until then, he grabbed the prey and devoured it in few minutes.

While taking some shots in this spot, I accidentally dropped my hat outside the vehicle and didn’t know what to do, as it was few meters away from 2 lionesses with their cubs.
I had to get it back as it was an open vehicle with no roof and it was a hot day and we were hours away from our camp. Obviously I didn’t get out of the vehicle and our guide Chris got a stick from a nearby tree, and while slow and carefully fished for my hat, the protective lioness suddenly reacted growling with eyes wide open, warning us to back away.
As long as you are inside the vehicle animals see you as part of it and this doesn’t represent any danger to them. But if you get your hand out or make any movement outside the limits of the vehicle, all animals feel threatened and can attack.

This cheetah roamed the plains for hours, stalking a large herd of Thompson gazelles that attentive and visibly nervous, stood still like a fence, facing his slow and stealthy walk.
He failed many hunting attempts until one of his siblings came to join the task.
