Photography is sonder.

I wonder if it is a sad kind of wonder. Or a satisfying one.

There is something comforting about being reminded that the world is bigger than yourself.

I’m glad to have noticed them, and to have been able to capture these small passing moments.

Tamsui, before the rain (except the last photo).

We thought the Lovers Bridge was within walking distance. It turned out a bus ride would get us there much faster.

The bus ride brought back memories of visiting the beaches of Jumeirah in Dubai. A reminder that it is possible to live a modern and quiet life near the ocean.

As we escaped the rain, I found myself wondering about the coziness of life in this part of Taiwan.

Just seeing these photos again made me feel like the ocean life is calling once more, even more so when you’re actually there.

Random shots from Ximending. A few frames from a walk toward Cinema Street and American Street, shown as they were captured and how I chose to interpret them.

All of these photos were taken from ground level, and most of them are from nearly the same angle.

That’s what happens when an icon is right there and you’re walking a city tour.

Taipei 101, Taiwan.

These houses are not fancy, but they are historical.

I just wanted to capture the honesty of these doors, weathered and tested by time.

I thought I wouldn’t find a good shot in this set, but then I saw this and saved it through color grading.

The sun was hiding, but the steam wasn’t ♨️

Our last stop of the day was Beitou Thermal Valley.

Like Taipei Zoo and the Maokong Gondola, Beitou Thermal Valley exists alongside homes and businesses. A reminder that nature and development do not always have to compete. Protecting places like this takes intention from both leaders and ordinary people alike.

Here are some quick before-and-after edits from the visit.

Stop number 2 on Day 2 in Taiwan: Qingtiangang Grassland 🌿

One thing I am learning about photography is that the same scene can exist twice.

First, as a place you visit or a moment you witness.

Then, as a photograph shaped by the choices you make after pressing the shutter.

I am still figuring out what those choices look like.

What do you think of these photos?
