Amid the lush canopy of Taiwan’s Tianxiang Recreation Area in Taroko Gorge, a young rhesus macaque (Macaca mulatta) pauses mid-adventure, its bright eyes peeking through fresh spring leaves. These adaptable primates roam from dense forests to city parks, but here in the gorge, they seem perfectly at home among the whispering branches and rushing river below. I had been following rustles in the foliage for a while before this little one swung into view, striking a pose that felt both playful and watchful. The afternoon light spilled through the leaves, turning the scene into a vivid green stage for a moment of wild beauty.
