Sunspots

Sunspots are dark areas that appear on the surface of the Sun and are considered one of the most well-known astronomical phenomena throughout history. These spots appear darker because they are relatively cooler regions compared to the surrounding surface, caused by strong magnetic activity that limits the flow of heat outward.

Sunspots are not permanent; they can last from a few days to several months before disappearing. They are part of active regions on the Sun and are often associated with powerful events such as solar flares and massive coronal mass ejections.

Scientists use sunspots as a key indicator of solar activity, as their number increases and decreases in a natural cycle that lasts about 11 years, known as the solar cycle. During periods of high activity (Solar Maximum), many sunspots appear, while fewer are seen during quiet phases (Solar Minimum). Tracking sunspots helps scientists better understand solar behavior and space weather.

Despite appearing small in images, some sunspots can be larger than the Earth itself, highlighting the immense scale and power of our Sun.

The sun isn’t just light… it’s nature’s signature on every scene I live. In every journey, I chase it behind mountains, above oceans, through minarets, or deep in foggy forests.
I capture it as it sinks quietly, or blazes across the sky like it’s speaking a language only I understand.
Photographing the sun isn’t just a shot…
It’s a silent moment between me and the universe, where colors speak, shadows breathe, and the poem is written in light.
Sometimes I place it above Galata Tower.
Sometimes I let it reflect on the sea.
Sometimes it hides behind tall trees in a misty silhouette.
Each scene has its rhythm. Each sunset, its own melody.
And I simply translate that visually.
“The sun never disappears. It just moves to inspire us from another angle.”
“Every sunset is a new beginning for those who see light with the heart.”

🗼Galata Tower🗼
Galata Tower is one of the symbols of Istanbul and it is situated in Galata, on a hill seeing the historical peninsula of Istanbul from A-Z. The origin of the Galata Tower goes back to the fifth century CE when Byzantines built a wooden tower named Magalos Pyrgos (Great Tower) in order to control the city of Constantinople and the Golden Horn. Due to the fires, earthquakes, and the Sack of Constantinople by the Fourth Crusaders in 1204 the wooden tower was completely destroyed.

In 1348, the Genoese community living in the district of Pera (Galata) built today’s Galata Tower and named it Christea Turris (Tower of Christ). Galata Tower is a cylindrical tower made from stone and it is approximately 67 meters long.

Galata Tower was the tallest building in Istanbul until the construction of Beyazıt Tower in 1749. During the Ottoman period, Galata Tower functioned as a jail, observatory house, and watchtower. After the restorations took place in 1960, Galata Tower was commercialized and opened to the public. Today, the tower functions as a 360-degree viewing platform of Istanbul.

🗼Kız kulesi / Maidan’s Tower🗼
In the fifth century BCE, a customs point was established on the island where the tower is located today, and a tower was built to inspect ships coming from the Black Sea and tocollect taxes.
A defence tower was built on the island by the Eastern Roman Emperor, Manuel Komnenos the First, in the 12th century. A chain was stretched between this tower and a tower located next to the Mangana Monastery in Sarayburnu (the section where the sea walls were restored) to control the entry and exit of ships through the Bosphorus. After the Conquest, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror (Fatih Sultan Mehmet) had a new castle built at this location. A guard unit was placed in the castle. Every evening after bedtime and at dawn, the Mehter watch began to play in the tower. It became a tradition to fire cannon shots from the Maiden’s Tower during holidays and sultan’s visits to the seaside palaces, and when they ascend to the throne.A lantern was placed on the northern part of the wooden tower by Sultan III, Ahmed’s Grand Vizier, Nevşehirli Damat İbrahim Pasha, to illuminate the way for ships coming from the Black Sea and Marmara at night. Since then, the tower ceased being a castle and served primarily as a lighthouse.Between 1830 and 1831, the tower was converted into a quarantine hospital to prevent the cholera epidemic from spreading to the city.

🌲🌳One tree in a different place and season 🌲🌳
On my photography trips, I always notice the solitary trees in the middle of fields, on top of mountains, or on the banks of rivers. Sometimes the sunset or moonrise coincides with the lonely trees, which increases my fascination with the view After enjoying the view, I have to document the moment in my camera.
I love the solitude of things that increase the beauty of themselves without the need for anything else.

🌅golden time 🌅
The golden hour, sometimes called the “magic hour”, is roughly the first hour of light after sunrise, and the last hour of light before sunset, although the exact duration varies between seasons. During these times the sun is low in the sky, producing a soft, diffused light which is much more flattering than the harsh midday sun that so many of us are used to shooting in. The golden hour rule can be applied to any type of outdoor photography. As well as the more obvious subjects such as landscapes and city scenes.

🍂🍁 Good bye Autumn 🍁🍂
Autumn photography is all about timing, capturing that magic moment when the world transforms into a vibrant canvas of fiery oranges, golden yellows, and radiant reds.
But these peak fall colors are fleeting, often lasting just a week or two, making it a race against time for photographers.
Ever planned a fall road trip, arrived at your chosen location with camera in hand, only to find that the color spectacle has ended? We’ve all been there.
Here’s the silver lining: Just as meteorologists predict weather patterns, experts map the progression of fall colors across regions, providing a valuable tool for knowing when colors of autumn trees will peak.
Lean on resources like fall foliage prediction maps to get insights into when and where to go to plan a fall foliage photo shoot.
