Some journeys aren’t measured by the miles you travel, but by the stories waiting beneath your feet.

Standing before the statue of Alexander the Great in the Istanbul Archaeology Museums with my little Playmobil companion felt strangely fitting. These lands witnessed the footsteps of countless civilizations, where Anatolia became the meeting point of empires, cultures, and ideas. History here isn’t locked behind glass—it still echoes through every sculpture, every stone, and every forgotten story.

Last night’s special museum tour reminded me that even the places we think we know can still surprise us. I walked away with fascinating new perspectives on Anatolia, Alexander, and the rich history of this region that I’ll be thinking about for a long time.

One photo. Two different eras.

The first image is the original shot I created using a real LEGO Castle set in a park, trying to capture the same sense of adventure those classic medieval sets always gave me.

Then I asked AI to imagine something different: What if this exact photo had appeared in an official LEGO catalog from the mid-1980s? A fictional set number, a made-up product name, period-correct pricing, and the unmistakable brochure style that many of us grew up flipping through.

It’s not about replacing the original photograph—it’s about celebrating it in another medium and exploring how nostalgia, photography, and AI can work together to tell a new story.

Sometimes the most fun part isn’t building the set… it’s building the memories around it.

For years I’ve been trying to photograph not toys, but the stories hidden inside them.

This time, instead of telling those stories through my camera, I had the chance to talk about why I create them. My conversation on toy photography, imagination and storytelling is featured in the latest issue of İstanbul Sanat Magazine.
