Galactic Fire
That night, everything aligned, the darkness, the silence, and a rocky landscape that felt like it belonged to another world. Far from any city glow, I set up my gear among the stones and waited for the galactic core to climb above the horizon. What struck me most was what the camera revealed that my eyes could not: a vast arc of glowing red hydrogen, quietly wrapping itself around the heart of our galaxy. The Hα filter pulled it out of the darkness like a secret the sky had been keeping all along.

Imaged with a full-frame camera and a Samyang 135 mm f/2.8 lens on a Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi mount.
30 x 30-second exposures reveal a delicate ion tail extending over ≈ 16.8° across the frame.

At a geocentric distance of 94.93 million km (25 Oct 2025, 20:35 local time), this corresponds to a physical length of about 28.7 million km.
The bluish coloration traces CO⁺ ion emission, sculpted by the solar wind and the interplanetary magnetic field, while the broader white envelope near the coma reflects sunlight scattered by dust particles.

Acquisition & Processing:
Canon Full-frame camera · Samyang 135 mm @ f/2.8 · Sky-Watcher SA-GTi · 30 × 30 s @ ISO 800
PixInsight + Photoshop · FOV ≈ 15.2° × 10.2°, diagonal 18.2°

𝑪𝒓𝒂𝒛𝒚 𝑳𝒆𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒏 - 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑰𝒐𝒏 𝑻𝒂𝒊𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝑷𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒐𝒔

Captured under favorable conditions with the Twin RASA 8 systems equipped with ZWO ASI2600MM Duo cameras.

Comet Lemmon has now entered the inner solar system, where solar radiation and the solar wind interact intensely with its ionized gases. This generates a magnificent ion tail rich in filaments and dynamic plasma waves, shaped by the solar magnetic field.

The green coma mainly originates from diatomic carbon (C₂) emissions, while the bluish tail traces carbon monoxide ions (CO⁺).
As the comet approaches its perihelion on November 8 2025, the ion tail is expected to display strong brightness variations and turbulent structures, driven by solar activity and outgassing from the nucleus.

Exposure: 35 × 15 s for each RGB filter
Setup: Twin RASA 8 – ZWO ASI2600MM Duo – Antlia RGB Pro filters – f/2

This image of Comet Lemmon was captured this evening from the center of Tunis under bright twilight conditions, between 20° and 14° of altitude, with some high-altitude clouds drifting across the field.

I used a RASA 8" f/2, ZWO ASI2600MM, and the Wave 150i mount, equipped with the Antlia OIII Fast F/2 filter a perfect setup for fast, narrowband imaging.

💡 While OIII is not the native emission line of most comets, during twilight or in strong light pollution, this narrow filter acts as a spectral shield, cutting almost all background glow while isolating the faint bluish ion tail.

Here, the dust tail was completely suppressed, leaving only the pure ion tail, gracefully extending across the frame.
Even from the city center, the OIII Fast filter reveals the delicate ionized gases and fine plasma structures of the comet.

📷 Integration: 320 subs × 5 s
🔭 Equipment: RASA 8 f/2 + ZWO ASI2600MM + Wave 150i
🎯 Filter: Antlia OIII Fast F/2
📍 Location: Downtown Tunis
🕐 Captured: October 23, 2025 between 20° and 14° altitude, under high-altitude clouds during evening twilight
