Some of our favorite memories from Shanghai last year. (Save for your next trip👇🏽)
1. Riluo Changlang | 日落長廊
A quiet stretch along the river facing The Bund. It is a place to observe, to reflect, and to witness Shanghai in transition from day to night.
2. Shanghai Natural History Museum | 上海自然博物馆
An architectural landmark housing vast collections of natural history. Towering skeletal reconstructions, including a massive Brachiosaurus, place human scale into perspective and remind visitors of Earth’s long and layered past.
3. Yuyuan Old Street | 豫园老街
A preserved commercial district surrounding Yuyuan Garden. Traditional façades, curved rooftops, and illuminated lanterns create an atmosphere that feels almost cinematic, particularly after nightfall.
4. The Bund | 外滩
Perhaps the most recognized waterfront in the city. Colonial-era buildings line one side of the Huangpu River, while across the water the financial district rises in steel and glass. It is a visual dialogue between eras.
5 & 6. Yuyuan Garden | 豫园
Constructed in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty as a private retreat, the garden remains an enduring symbol of classical Chinese landscape design. Rock formations, koi ponds, and intricately designed pavilions cultivate a sense of stillness within a dense urban environment.
7. 1933 Millfun | 1933 老场坊
Originally built as a slaughterhouse in 1933, the structure has been reimagined as a creative complex. Its concrete geometry, interwoven bridges, and layered corridors form a striking example of adaptive reuse.
8. Lujiazui Skywalk | 陆家嘴天桥
An elevated pedestrian network in the financial district, offering unobstructed views of surrounding skyscrapers and the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower. I
9. 1000 Trees | 天安千树
A contemporary mixed-use development along Suzhou Creek defined by terraced greenery rising from concrete platforms. Its form challenges conventional urban design and reflects the city’s evolving architectural identity.
Truly a city where history, scale, and modern ambition coexist in constant contrast.
