Stray dogs roam freely around the hills above Pattaya, especially near the famous Pattaya City Sign and the viewpoint trails. It might seem like a peaceful place for a sunset walk or photo — but don’t let your guard down. These packs can be intimidating, especially if you're walking alone.

Locals know the risk. Tourists often don’t.

This isn’t just a viewpoint — it’s a territory.

This is my closing short on Pattaya for now.

After the last trip, I finally understand the stages more clearly:

Holiday Mode → Life-Abroad Mode → Settlement Mode

A holiday only has to work for a short time. It is built around the peak.

Life-Abroad Mode is different. It has to survive the ordinary days — the room, the routine, the baseline, the quiet hours, and whether life abroad can actually hold once the excitement fades.

Settlement Mode is another step again. That is where life abroad becomes a real long-term structure.

For me, the truth is simple: I have not made it past Life-Abroad Mode. Not yet.

So I’m stepping away from Pattaya for now.

Not bitter. Not defeated. Just clearer.

New long-form reflection now live.

This one is about the moment Pattaya stops being just a holiday and starts becoming a much bigger life question.

There is a big difference between going there for two weeks of escape… and asking whether some version of life there could actually work.

Holiday Mode is built around the peak.

Life-Abroad Mode is built around the baseline — the room, the area, the routine, the purpose, the ordinary days, and whether the place can still hold you once the excitement fades.

For anyone who loves Pattaya, keeps going back, or has ever wondered whether moving there might be the answer… this is probably the deepest piece I’ve made so far.

We don’t travel for temples or beaches. Not really.
What we’re chasing is something older. Something buried.
Lust isn’t a distraction—it’s the Shadow. And it’s why so many men return to places like Pattaya or Angeles again and again.

This is a glimpse into the truth most won’t admit.

It stems from being accepted within the tribe - decent society, so your primal instincts got buried. Survival outside the tribe was low so you did not want to get exiled.

Why do men keep going back to Pattaya?

It is not just about bars, nightlife, or short-term pleasure.

For many repeat visitors, Pattaya represents something deeper: options.

At home, life can feel fixed. The same routines, the same limits, the same closed doors.

In Pattaya, life can feel open again — dating, attention, nightlife, possible settlement, mobility, and the chance to try another version of yourself.

But options are not the same as a life.

They can wake you up, but the baseline still has to hold.

Victory Beach Sihanoukville 2005. Spent a few days relaxing chilling here in the daytime. Saw a few western backpackers here, staying in some budget huts near the beach. Some cute western girls about I remember, back then, I was not much older than them ;-)
