AS HAS OFTEN BEEN IN ISAN AND THROUGHOUT THAILAND – when you leave the wide and well-trodden paths and venture into the backcountry, you come across the most fascinating things that you would otherwise NEVER encounter. --- On a trip north of Kuchinarai/Kalasin, I happened to stumble upon a religious ceremony being performed by villagers at a crossroads beneath a banyan tree. Among other things, it is intended to drive out evil spirits from villagers who are suffering from illness.
WIE SCHON OFT IM ISAN UND AUCH IN GANZ THAILAND - wenn man die breiten und ausgetretenen Pfade verlässt und sich auch mal ins Outback schlägt, dann trifft man auf die interessantesten Dinge, denen man sonst NIE begegnen würde. --- Auf einem Trip nördlich von Kuchinarai/Kalasin stieß ich zufällig auf eine religiöse Zeremonie von Dorfbewohnern an einer Kreuzung unter einem Banyanbaum. Sie soll unter anderem der Austreibung böser Geister bei kranken Dorfangehörigen dienen.

Also in this 2nd part, not a single photo is mine - Muy was with two friends at "Naga Mountain" and the waterfalls there in Bueng Khong Long / Bueng Khan Province, and the photos are from her or the tour guide. It was pouring with rain, and that was—as strange as it may sound—a great stroke of luck! On the one hand, the light was beautifully subdued, and on the other, the waterfalls were a fantastic spectacle. I visited Kinaree Waterfall myself in 2022 (see link below) - unfortunately, I can no longer afford to see the fantastic rock formations themselves due to the long and steep climb with my old knees. It is probably one of the most beautiful natural spots in all of Isan. This whole corner of northeastern Isan is among the most beautiful things I've seen in Thailand...


Auch hier in Teil 2 ist keine einzige Aufnahme von mir - Muy war mit zwei Freundinnen am "Nagaberg" und den dortigen Wasserfällen in Bueng Khong Long / Provinz Bueng Khan und die Aufnahmen stammen von ihr oder vom Tourguide. Es hat in Strömen geregnet und das war - so seltsam es klingt - ein großes Glück! Zum einen gab es ein wunderschön gedämpftes Licht und zum anderen waren die Wasserfälle deswegen ein fantastisches Schauspiel. --- Am Kinaree-Wasserfall war ich selbst 2022 (siehe Link unten) - die fantastischen Felsformationen selbst kann ich mir aufgrund des langen und steilen Aufstiegs mit meinen alten Knien leider nicht mehr leisten. Es ist wohl einer der schönsten Naturplätze im gesamten Isan überhaupt. Diese ganze Ecke im Nordost-Isan gehört zu dem Schönsten, was ich in Thailand gesehen habe...

According to Phu Langka National Park officials, the giant snake rock is actually made up of sun-cracked rocks that are more than 100,000 years old. The sharp temperature differences between day and night caused the rock to expand, contract, and eventually crack. Matched with water erosion, the scale-like pattern of the giant snake rock was eventually formed.

Laut Angaben der Verantwortlichen des Phu Langka Nationalparks besteht der riesige Schlangenfelsen tatsächlich aus sonnenzerstörtem Gestein, das über 100.000 Jahre alt ist. Die starken Temperaturunterschiede zwischen Tag und Nacht ließen den Fels sich ausdehnen, zusammenziehen und schließlich brechen. In Kombination mit der Wassererosion entstand schließlich das schuppenartige Muster des riesigen Schlangenfelsens.

MASKS & FACES” - Phi Khon Nam Festival / Chiang Kham

The “Phi Khon Nam” Festival is a traditional merit-making festival (“Tamboun”). It takes place every year in Na Sao-Chiang Khan / Loei in May. The tradition originally serves to pray for rain for agriculture and has been practiced for more than 300 years. --- The people of Na Sao originally descended from the Thai Phuan, who migrated from the left bank of the Mekong River and initially settled in Na Sam Wa before expanding their community to Ban Song Non.

Das „Phi Khon Nam“-Fest ist ein traditionelles Verdienstfest („Tamboun“). Es findet jedes Jahr in Na Sao-Chiang Khan / Loei im Mai statt. Die Tradition dient ursprünglich dazu, Regen für die Landwirtschaft zu erbitten und wird seit mehr als 300 Jahren gepflegt. --- Die Bewohner von Na Sao stammen ursprünglich von den Thai-Phuan ab, die vom linken Ufer des Mekong einwanderten und sich zunächst in Na Sam Wa niederließen, bevor sie ihre Gemeinschaft bis Ban Song Non erweiterten.

As the water level of the Mekong falls, the riverbanks—which during the rainy season are not uncommonly submerged far up their slopes—are exposed again, leaving behind a thick and fertile layer of sediment. Together with irrigation water pumped up from the river, the vegetables planted during the dry season grow in this naturally deposited “organic fertilizer.” --- The photographs were taken in the eastern Isan region, 64 kilometres north of Khong Chiam, where the Mae Nam Mun and Chi rivers flow together into the Mekong, giving this spot its name, the “Two-Colour River.”

Wenn durch den sinkenden Wasserspiegel die nicht selten während der Regenzeit bis weit oben unter Wasser stehenden Ufer des Mekong frei werden, dann haben sie eine dicke und fruchtbare Sedimentschicht als Auflage. Zusammen mit Bewässerungswasser, das nach oben gepumpt wird, wächst das in der Trockenzeit gepflanzte Gemüse auf "organischem Dünger". --- Die Aufnahmen entstanden im östlichen Isan 64 Kilometer nördlich von Kong Chiam – da, wo das Wasser von Mae Nam Mun und Chi zusammen in den Mekong fließen und dieser Stelle den Namen „Zweifarbenfluss“ gaben.
