A Little Different
Flying into Victoria Falls. I’d been there before — the Falls are spectacular.
But while still in Australia, I started researching Livingstone in Zambia. As usual, the excitement was running through my veins. The adventure had already started.
Crossing the border was a little easier than I thought. Another visa, another country… and another adventure.
The first thing I explored was the market. There are markets, and then there are markets. This one was different — a very poor market, with people doing the best they could to make a few dollars and make ends meet.
Then, luckily enough, I heard about the compound where people lived. Seeing people toughing it out and trying to make ends meet there was another massive eye-opener — and, for me, another highlight of the journey.
Photography wasn’t easy. It reminded me a lot of Papua New Guinea — people weren’t particularly comfortable having their photos taken. I had to ask politely and respect their wishes. But every now and again, I was lucky enough to get a shot off. And when I did, it meant that much more.
When I got back to Victoria Falls, the people I was staying with were telling me how beautiful the Falls were.
My story was just a little different.
But I suppose that’s a little bit of who I am — always looking for something different, camera in hand, enjoying the moment and capturing the stories that unfold along the way.
