A look back at yesterday’s peaceful demonstration against the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) at the Ratchadaphisek–Rama IV intersection in Bangkok.

Bangkok - October 16, 2026.

Around midday at the Ratchadaphisek–Rama IV intersection, protesters gathered to demonstrate against the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, as their Annual Meetings take place at the nearby Queen Sirikit National Convention Center.
Large numbers of police officers formed a security cordon around the intersection, guarding access to the convention center, where thousands of international delegates and representatives from 191 countries are attending the meetings.
Among the scenes captured were protesters holding banners and placards bearing their slogans, alongside foreign delegates and other international visitors in the area. In a symbolic gesture, demonstrators also threw balloons towards police officers.

The gathering remained largely peaceful, with no major incidents observed during the morning.

Protest in Bangkok against IMF

Bangkok, unplanned…
Today I stumbled upon an anti-IMF protest at the Ratchadaphisek/Rama IV intersection, where demonstrators had gathered for a sit-in, blocking the junction.
I had my camera with me, so I took the opportunity to spend ten minutes or so photographing the scene, just observing and getting a feel for what was happening.
Not exactly the ideal setup for the situation, but sometimes you just have to work with what you have 😀
No plan, no assignment. Just a chance encounter with the city and a few frames along the way and occasion to meet friend 😉
